Wiring Lights Using The Loop Method?

N

nlbhoy

Hey Folks,

I've just purchased a large building in my town that I'm converting into 4 flats, and I plan on doing 90% of the work myself (including the electrics)

Hypothetically speaking say I have one lighting circuit per flat with 12 lights and 4 swithches (each switch controls 3 lights) with all the lighting cables being looped
how would they be connected at the ceiling rose?

will every light need a permanent feed? if so how would this be connected when your looping from room to room and the lights are controlled ba a seperated switch?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

might be an idea for OP to run in cables and let his spark check work and 2nd fix?

ok not that clear from how you state it but this is what i gather from your discription you say theres 3 lights dependent on 1 switch 4 switches 12 lights guessing that you are not 2 waying any lights then simply 3 plate the first light and the other 2 will run purely on switch line and neutrals and be dependent on the original light as you say your 17th edition qualified so im assuming that 3 plate to you will be as simple as breathing and the take a permenant live to the next room

(if these are down lights then three plate it in a jb) and then switch line and neutral to each down light I find the best thing to do is place the jb in the center of the room then if a pendant should ever be required or a chanderlier then the three plate junction can be easily retreaved

No disrespect but you say your qualified and 3 plate is normally the first thing you learn so this is why people are questioning you

also you say that you have mainly been involved in comercial rather than domestic comercial lighting is sometimes more than not if not using single wired in 3 plate

Ah, the old 'My electrician is on holiday' one ha ha:D

These three sets of quotes contradict each other quite nicely, don't you think.

You can't remember 'loop in' lighting - day two of training (day one being wiring a plug:))

Even if you've never been shown it - as a qualified electrician with 17th Ed quals, you should be able to work it out.

And this has to be the laugh of the day:

Appologies lmao first thing is wiring a plug

12 lights..4 switches,...leave off, aint even been thought out properly...with the best of respect, get it done properly, before it burn down on show day...do the plumbing, then your leaks will help quench it,boyo!!!
