Wood burner-detector required?

What detector should be fitted in a room with a wood burner? I know a Carbon Monoxide detector is required but what should be installed out of a smoke detector or heat detector?

seeing as a wood burner produces smoke as a bi-product to reduce nuisance alarm sounding i would opt for a heat alarm.

if it's not close to the burner, an optical smoke may be OK. Tazz is your expert here.

As Lankywill states, smoke is a problem.........A sealed flue unit should not cause any problems, but when you open the stove door to refuel, this could be a problem with false alarms....suggest an optical or multi sensor at least 2-3m away from the fire. To give some early warning. You may have to change to a heat if false alarms become a problem.....so its really suck and see....A CO detector is a must here, no matter what else is installed.

No hasel5 , you are correct, hence why it is a suck it and see situation, if there`s plenty of air flow in a large room, and optical will possibly be fine.....closed small cottage type room, could be a problem.

only by depriving you of oxygen. you'd asphyxiate rather than be poisoned as with CO

Thanks for replies. Smoke detector seems to be the general consensus so will go for that. Worst case scenario is it gets triggered off easily in which case I'll swap for a heat detector. Thanks.

put aico in, sliding base which fits all different alarm types saves you hassle later on

I fit heat detectors in this scenario but that based upon Scottish Standards. If it's any help, Aico now do a combined unit though. Not sure how smoke from a fire would affect it.
