working for family

How do you guys price for family jobs I've upgraded the board and run in 35 mtrs of 10 m2 for cooker plus 45a cooker switch and spur all chased in tidy I know what it cost in materials but what would you charge for labour

Tbh I half rewired my best mates' house for free. Just charged him costs for the materials. But he has got me laid a few times

Surely it depends a bit on your relationship with your familiy and also your financial situation. If you have a close family who help each other out and you are not on the bread line then I guess just charge costs (I couldn't imagine asking my mum for £320 for 2 days work when she spent years wiping my bum!!). If it is not a close family member or you really need the money then anything from mates rates (half price for me) to full price.

Barter system is good.

I chop logs as well as sparking so when I needed my posh advert upgrading to include an NICEIC logo (!) the bloke that did it originally amended it for .... A very large bag of hand chopped, 2 year seasoned Ash. Everyones happy

Agree. Rewired In-Laws cottage for cost of materials earlier in the year. They've done lots for us over the years so it all evens out.

Immediate family gets it free, next level down gets 30% off labour, anything else is full whack £25 per hour plus 10% on top of parts.

My parents and brother just pay for materials.

Friends and family...for simple things, replace a broken switch etc..I just do it. Anything else i say im too busy. Not worth it

Where I live, the price is pretty irrelevant (within reason). It's whether the customer likes you or not.

I normally get charged for doing family jobs, lose my tools for a week or so and then have a constant complaint that I did stuff that was not needed e.g IP rated bathroom lights instead of the 50p one they bought
