Does anyone here have any information on working as an electrician in South Africa? Do they follow the same regulations as in the UK?
Appreciate any assisitance

Sorry meant "bonded" not earthed. Terminology. Parts to be bonded. Min bonding conductor size 2.5mm
.6.13.2.4 Roofs, gutters, down pipes and waste pipes
If a building is connected to an electricity supply, the roof(s), gutter(s),down pipe(s) and waste pipe(s) shall be bonded and earthed and theresistance of the earth continuity path shall not exceed 0,2
Ω, unless
Amdt 4
a) the supply voltage does not exceed 50 V,b) the supply uses an underground service connection,c) the roof is made of, or covered with, non-conductive material,d) the gutter(s), down pipe(s) and waste pipe(s) are of non-conductivematerial, ore) the gutter(s) and down pipe(s) are attached to a metal roof that is
covered with non-conductive material.

No mention disconnection times in the SANS0142 book. Just must disconnect in time. Its all based on the UK regs book anyways just a LOT more basic. No adibatic equations in thsi electricians bible. The Regs exam over here, however, is INSANELY hard, Pass rate 2% - 3%(!!!!) I was told. The testing course you have to do was so simple my mum could have passed it(slight exageration but compared to Uk test and inspect its quite funny)

Are these all metal structures as well? I can understand if you have a metal framed building as just like here in the UK you bond it to the main MET, but if the building fabric is brick or wood with a metal roof I don't think I would be bonding it.

Is it to do with transient voltages from lightening?

Lightning protection and surge protection are not covered by the main South AfricanSANS 0142domestic regs. Surge protection is covered in SANS 61643

Compulsory earth bonding of television antenna is a fairly recent ammendment.

SANS0142
6.12.3.2 The following conductive parts do not need to be earthed:
...........
g) structural steelwork, including items such as fire escapes and cat
ladders; and
...........

6.13.2 Parts to be bonded
6.13.2.1 General
The parts given in 6.13.2.2 to 6.13.2.5 shall be bonded.
6.13.2.2 Hot and cold water systems
Hot and cold water systems shall be bonded together and also be bonded
to the earth continuity conductor system.
6.13.2.3 Antennas
An antenna (including a satellite dish) shall be bonded to the installation
earthing system by means of a conductor of at least 2,5 mm2 copper or
equivalent. Amdt 1; amdt 4
6.13.2.4 Roofs, gutters, down pipes and waste pipes
If a building is connected to an electricity supply, the roof(s), gutter(s),
down pipe(s) and waste pipe(s) shall be bonded and earthed and the
resistance of the earth continuity path shall not exceed 0,2 Ω, unless
Amdt 4
a) the supply voltage does not exceed 50 V,
b) the supply uses an underground service connection,
c) the roof is made of, or covered with, non-conductive material,
d) the gutter(s), down pipe(s) and waste pipe(s) are of non-conductive
material, or
e) the gutter(s) and down pipe(s) are attached to a metal roof that is
covered with non-conductive material.
6.13.2.5 Water pumps

Every domestic installation is also required to have an earth bar (usually in the roof space) for other services to use.
6.11.5 A readily accessible earthing terminal shall be provided for the
bonding of other services such as a telephone, an audio system, a video, and
the like, to a building. Such an earthing terminal shall be bonded to the
consumer’s earth terminal by a conductor of at least 6 mm2 copper or
equivalent, and shall be identified by the earth symbol
