Hi all,im currently an Apprentice and need some advice for a job that my boss is doing. He plans to put a fused spur on a 32a ring circuit to feed a CSU for a couple of sockets in the shed. The cable run is about 45 meters long using SWA (not sure what size). Is this acceptable because this doesn't seem right to me?cheers perry

Here's a hypothetical situation for you:
A final circuit has been installed to 16th edition with (for argument's sake) just under 4% VD - can you then add a light via a FCU? Would you even check the VD to make sure it was ok? If you can't add a light in this way because of VD can you plug in a table lamp instead?

Or alternatively the same situation wired to 17th with just under 5%?

well would it not be a case of fixed V portable equipment as in...a single lamp V multiple luminairs in series adam...
but i catch your drift...

Yeah basically what I was getting at was in this situation if the proposed circuit is OK for power but not for lighting, would it be acceptable to add a single light via FCU? If you install the sockets anyway and tell the customer they can't have a light because the VD is fine for a socket but not for a light can you really expect them not to just plug in a work light and accuse you of being a jobsworth?

I leave you lot for a couple of hours and 4 pages later its moved no further on........

I think i know what's about to take place. The SWA will be 6.0mm2 and and wired directly onto the rfc by passing the BS1362 PD. That will mean sockets will be added.
Your problems now will be both VD and Zs - no matter, just wack in a RCD at the shed and the pickle is complete.

I told you all along it would be a roughed in temporary arrangement.
