get a shock off a main earth that's disconnected from the cu in a tncs system when the main cu switch is off? Overheard someone at work talking about it today but never heard off it. (bear in mind I'm a beginner)

Pretty sure he said he had earth thats in with the neutral disconnected at cu earth bar to take ze reading and touched it by mistake and got shock?

yep that's where you take the Ze reading

you can get a shock off the bar alright when you pull the main earth-if there's a fault

He said ah you ******* ****! . Seriously though is this common to get a shock like this?

only if thay is a fault as long you do safe isolation you be ok .. but you can get static of cables and floating earths that have voltage

A fault from the suppliers side? And concerning your earlier post why would you get a shock off bar if power is off? Maybe it was bar he got it from and not cable then.

if you pull the main earth on tn-c-s you're going back to 'direct earthing' without the main rcd.
so if there was an earth fault there may be a touch voltage present

Lol if you've disconnected the M.E.T and started a external earth loop impedance test and was shocked from the supply don't think you would be alive to tell the story.
