I have just bought a Wylex dual RCD consumer unit as it was on a special offer.
I am having second thoughts now as I am thinking about all the Wylex MCB's they had trouble with.
The guy at the wholesalers assured me that this problem has been sorted however I am now wishing I had bought an MK board.
What are your thoughts on Wylex boards?
Do you have a preference for any type or brand of board?
Thanks.

Agree,
If you look at the recall notice it applies to Wylex,Crabtree & Volex all 6/10/16A and from April 2009 - Feb 2010 - How many of these bloody things have I installed - shed loads ! . the website www.mcbexchange.co.uk/electrium is a complete pile of crap - It expects you to list all the installation addresses between the dates, type of mcb etc. I'm burried under paperwork now...
There must be a better way of doing this ???

Can't abide MK boards....

Just fitted standard MK board (15 way I think it was), and when I had it full of RCBO's , the DIN rail bowed out, and made it very difficult to get the lid on.

Don't like Wylex either cos of
a) the amount of very slightly differently shaped MCB's they make
b) just worked on one where there was no proper DIN rail , and once I dropped the bus bar to change an MCB, all the other MCB's fell out- just held by the circuit cable

Fave board at the minute is CED ! I know they are meant to be a cheapo make, but it was sturdy and robust, and came fully loaded with 10 MCB's 2 RCD's and main switch for £65 . Result !

The new style Wylex MCB are amazing quality they must have gone back a few generations really good plastics and nice tough threads, would say they beat MK hands down now;) and I've used exclusively MK and Hager for years now. Will now definitely use the new wylex and crabtree MCB's which are identical.

There may be a Wylex RCD recall soon if anyone else can add to my tally! I've had 2 with the test button not functioning and one that will not trip on 5 x at 180

Local Wholesaler reckons 1 in 10,000 defective requires a recall.

I do prefer the new Wylex MCBs hopefully they won't fail as quickly as the pre Feb 2010 ones

I agree, I have just fited 2 new wylex boards this week, but they now come with a new design of mcb, it actually stays in line when you tighten the busbar too! Result! On another note, I am going to audition the new British General boards. My wholesaler is knocking them out, 10 way, inc mcb's, for 46.00 inc vat. My only concern is one rcd is 80A and one is 63A. The wylex comes with 2x 80A rcds. I am getting the wylex fully loaded for just under 70 quid.
Forgot to mention, B&Q are doing the BG boards for 50 quid fully loaded at the mo.

Been using Wylex for ages and all through the recall calamity as well, never had any problems, best kit on the market in my opinion and experience. Most manufacturers of anything experience problems from time to time, even some of the biggest names in the world, Coca Cola and Toyota spring to mind, but people carry on buying it.
