taking over a job from a old sparkie,really nice jobby,trunkin & conduit,biggest warehouse.Wots your feelin on this,cos just had a mighty row wiv him.3 lighting circuits cabled in 2.5mm,quite a long run,switching low bay lighting in 3 rows,via 2 2way switches & 1 intermeddiate.At the switch position there shud of been 3 earths to match the 3 circuits,but no,the earths stop at the lighting points,& 1 earth is then taken from a circuit 2 the switch,this happens at all switch positions,so wot do u think.Major problem now is gettin the relevant earths 2 each switch,cos 25mm conduit full 2 the brim,my gaffer thinks it may b ok,but he wud.

Is this a metal containment?? If it is, there isn't or shouldn't be any need for a separate CPC to be drawn in as the containment IS the CPC!!! If the old boy has pulled-in a separate CPC conductor it is additional and not really required, just like all those additional CPC conductors you seem to want to pull in!!!

Your obviously not a conduit man!! ..lol!!

cliffed, you’ve rcvd mo criticism thN hlp. pls remMbR az oldtimer said, DIS iz a 4m not d street.

For the benefit of others;
cliffed, you’ve received more criticism than help. Please remember as oldtimer said, this is a forum not the street.

To be honest, I thought oldtimer was having a go at me and others for babbling off topic.

It would certainly help if you're asking a technical question, at least try and say it half reasonable English. It takes me a few minutes to decipher these posts and I just lose interest by then.

I take it this is all wired in singles ? As far as I understand it this is fine, it's definately the way I got taught to wire singles in containment . I can't point you to a reg but as long as there is an earth accompanying live conductors in every section of containment, an earth at every accessory, and every metal acessory is earthed then it is how it needs to be.

I may be wrong so I stand open to advice and correction.

ok but there are 3 circuits at the switch position,all at 16 amps,would you still be ok about 1 earth at switch,instead of 3,it is galv conduit & trunking,its wired in singles.Sorry about my english,im half welsh u no.

cheeky,done conduit,specifications state each circuit require their own earth cable,3x 16amps circuits should hav 3 earths,regardless of conduit integrity,why not 1 neutral ha ha.

You cant have one neutral or you could have a loading of 48 amps down one cable, chances of three earth faults at one time is slim, anyway correct me if i'm wrong but conduit/trunking i thought could still replace cpc reg.543.2.2 in brb by computer desk, green book in van,honest

What specifications would that be.............................regulation 412.2.3.2 is perhaps what you might be referring

3 circuits? you havent actually said there are 3 circuits, just that there are 3 rows and 3 switches, could be just one circuit, where is the feed?

Interesting...

I thought that was old hat now and could no longer be relied upon, hence why people are now using separate wires for the CPC...

At least, that's what my lecturers told me.
