Hi,

Nice easy one, I have a gas pipe, its metal, but painted, no supply to properly, its just capped, but live.

As for bonding, what would you do? Just sand some paint off and bung a clamp on it? That's my thoughts, whats yours? I know you are meant to only put it supply side, but there isn't one.

I can't believe how much of a deal you are all making out of this, we'll I can actually.

i only asked what you would do with regard to sanding a bit of paint off the pipe, I've already established in going to bond it, I just wondered if anyone else had a better suggestion...

Soften the paint with a blowtorch first - it makes the paint removal easier and as an added bonus will perform a leak test for you at the same time. :)

Always happy to help. ;)

But if that was my house and as already said by op that there is a 230v socket within close proximity then I would be bonding it if it needed it whether the gas police liked it or not!

Would you also make a Connection to the DNO cable before the cutout or Meter?

Your missing my point or maybe I didn't say it right, what I am saying is as an electrician if that was MY house and there was the chance that with a socket so close there could be a difference in potential then yes I would absolutely bond it if my test proved that it needed bonding. I am not talking about tampering with gas supplies am I, I am talking about attaching a clamp to the exterior pipe! Where is the problem.

What's the relevance here, to main bonding an extraneous gas pipe??

But yes, if the incoming cable was a PILC, and the Ze proved suitable by testing, i'd have no problem taking a main earth connection from that cable with a suitable clamp. I wouldn't however make a DIY N-E PME connection....
