DIY how to wire new circuit breaker to new switch and recessed LED lights?

I recently installed a new 15amp circuit breaker, and wired a 14-2 gauge wire to a brand new dimmer switch. From the dimmer switch I daisy chain wired 6 LED recessed lights. When I turned on the circuit breaker the lights all turned on, but the switch wasn't working. I then changed the switch to a different configuration that uses the 3 wires only, the lights would turn on, but when I'd go to flick it off the breaker would trip., I exchanged different switches and same issue. Install a regular switch no dimmer and same issue. It'll trip my breaker when I'd go to switch it off. What am I doing wrong??
