Grohe Toilet Cistern Abrupt Shutoff plumbing advice

Grohe Toilet Cistern Abrupt Shutoff I have purchased 2 x GROHE Flushing Cistern Solo 0.82 M 38691000

I am pleased with them for the most part and they replace existing Grohe cisterns that were in place for 14 years prior. However, these new ones appear to shut off the water supply very quickly after filling. Whilst the rapid shutoff does not cause our pipes to bang, I wonder if the abrupt shut off may cause issues further down the line. Is there a way to adjust the shut off so it does...

Advice on a Drayton EB valve body leaking from the top plumbing advice

Advice on a Drayton EB valve body leaking from the top A routine check revealed a leaking valve body on the en suite bathroom radiator.
I removed the thermostatic head and found the range limiting pins to be severely corroded.
Now, I’m resigned to draining the heating system and replacing the faulty valve body.

My question: In the interim, is there any point in fitting a decorator’s valve cap in place of the thermostatic head?

I’m thinking that if the cap were screwed right down it would...

Plastic hot water connection. Which compound to use?? plumbing advice

Plastic hot water connection. Which compound to use?? Hi, I have a leak on the hot water inlet of my concealed Aqualisa Gainsborough shower.
I have stripped it back and with the hot water feed on I can see the drip appear at the bottom of the plastic screw fitting.

I want to ensure that when I re-tile it, I won't have the same problem in the future and was wondering what to use around the plastic thread to make a well sealed connection, (PTFE, boss white, etc etc) bearing in mind it is the...

10 years on the forum Just realized that I have been on this forum for 10 years and 1 day.

Personally didn't think at the time I would be around now.

I would hate to read some of the posts I've posted over the years.....

Seen many come and go and forum dropping off to almost nothing many a time.

Not as active as I was when I needed to vent.....but still here.

Still enjoy...

DHW supply from Vaillant turbomax 828e plumbing advice

DHW supply from Vaillant turbomax 828e Hi,

We have a combi boiler supplying dhw and c/h to our 4 bed, 2 bath house. The boiler is in a cupboard on the first floor bathroom and supplies shower, bath and sink.
There is an attic bathroom with bath and sink, and a kitchen sink on the ground floor. Recently the dhw does not fire up if kitchen tap or attic hot taps are turned on. If we
leave one of these taps on and turn on a hot supply in the main bathroom then hot water will be supplied...

What valve is the flow plumbing advice

What valve is the flow Hi all
I removed a radiator off the wall and forgot to note what valve was the flow as I'll be replacing with a new radiator with a trv. Without putting back and re connecting how can I tell what pipe is the flow and what pipe is the return because I assume the trv goes on the flow. Btw both plastic caps are missing off the valves. Cheers in advance.

Where does the bellows fit on a Grohe adagio single valveflush? plumbing advice

Unvented Megaflo Strange Noise plumbing advice

Unvented Megaflo Strange Noise Hi,

I have an unvented megaflo that it or nearby components make these strange noises shortly after drawing hot water and then shutting off. In this example, water was drawn for 10 seconds and then shut off. The noise continued for around a minute. I couldn’t find where it was coming from and no pipes were vibrating.

The boiler was not heating water at the time.

I have an external EV as well as the internal baffle in my scenario. I believe the internal...

Pressure reducer/regulator for plastic water line? plumbing advice

Pressure reducer/regulator for plastic water line? Good evening,

Wondering if i could get a little guidance, I have a 3/8 plastic line running from a softener to a coffee machine (because laziness), however the line pressure seems to be maybe 2.5 bar. The manufacturer state the max line pressure is 2 bar (29 PSI). for the life of me i cant find a device to let me lower the pressure in the line which will connect to the 3/8 plastic line. im happy to throw on some adaptors, but it doesnt seem...

Where to put softener in water system? plumbing advice

Where to put softener in water system? I live in Azerbaijan, the house has three full bathrooms and has had up to 7 people living there. We store about 5-6 tonnes of water - a necessity because we've had no mains water for the last 2-3 days.

We currently have two plastic tanks but they are impossible to clean, so I am replacing them with a tiled concrete tank, about 5.75m3 (see pics). This is a fairly typical method in Azerbaijan. I'm just at the stage of revamping the pipework.

At the...

Looking for a smart water meter plumbing advice

Looking for a smart water meter I live in Azerbaijan and am looking to revamp the water system in my house. The first thing is that I don't have a water meter - probably a good thing as my mother in law pours tonnes of water on the garden in summer, mostly watering weeds as she can't tell the difference from grass.

But the practical issue is that it means that I have little real feel for how much water we actually use. The house has three full bathrooms and has had up to 7 people living...

Possible airlock plumbing advice

Possible airlock We have a sink, washing machine and shower in a ground floor utility room. Cold water is supplied from a loft tank. This otherwise only feeds a hot water cistern upstairs and all other cold taps in the house are mains fed. Cold water to all the items in the utility room has stopped running after we did some work elsewhere in the house. Thinking it must be an airlock we have fed mains water through the shower cold outlet via a garden tap and hose. We opened the sink tap until...

Gas Boiler and Radiator Replacement plumbing advice

Gas Boiler and Radiator Replacement I bought my house 31 years ago with its 8mm and 10mm micro central heating pipework and existing radiators.
There are leaks, the system works poorly.

In a first phase of work before winter I am starting again with:-

A new gas boiler to supply central heating only.
New 15mm (or 22mm) pipework which is being installed behind new coving in my utility room, reception hall, lounge, and dining room.
New skirting board heating replacing all radiators upstairs...

Plastic flow/return into boiler case normal? plumbing advice

Plastic flow/return into boiler case normal? Hi

I was viewing a house today and came across a few questionable plumbing practices. Looking at the outside oil boiler I noticed pushfit plastic flow/return going into the case and wanted to know others opinion on this? I would of thought building regulations required copper from the boiler for a certain distance.

I couldn't see the actual boiler as the case was padlocked though.

In addition to this I noticed 2 pan connectors linked for the...

Low pressure mixer spray tap recommendations ? plumbing advice

Low pressure mixer spray tap recommendations ? I'll be installing a new kitchen, DIY, and the Mrs wants a mixer tap with a switchable spray/regular flow. No pullout with hose but more like one with a spiral round the outer hose that lifts out of a mount and you can move it about a bit. Something like you see on catering sinks. Now stay with me on this as I'm not a plumber !
I have gravity fed hot water, but mains fed cold, and the cold pressure is very high.
Currently the mixer tap we have...

Leaky elbow on bath drainage - I screwed up!! plumbing advice

Leaky elbow on bath drainage - I screwed up!! Hi all

I could kick myself! I finished the drainage for my bath today but upon testing there was clearly a leak from one of the elbows just before it hits the soil pipe (see photo). I'm not happy, this was a simple joint with all the space and time but somehow I haven't applied enough solvent weld. Do I have any options? I'm guessing I'm going to have to cut it out on the straights and use a coupler, any pro tips welcome?

Cheers. P...

Vent valve greenstar 35cdi compact how to get back inside plumbing advice

Vent valve greenstar 35cdi compact how to get back inside Hi

Took the vent valve off which has a spring clip and sits in the top right hand side of the boiler, particular to this install it's in a cupboard making access difficult on top of a step ladder and sliding into the cupboard.

I have
Drained the system.
Silicone greased the new valve for reseating

It's difficult to reseat the vent valve and then get the spring insert back into position there must be a technique to get it back in...

plumbing in portable gas stove? plumbing advice

plumbing in portable gas stove? I'm moving to a flat currently fitted with an induction hob, but I really can't live without a wok burner. The best wok burner approved for domestic indoor use is a German propane-fed portable burner. I'm told the manufacturer can re-jet it for methane - but is there a compliant way to get a portable device permanently plumbed into the mains? If so, is it something any registered engineer should be happy to do?
(I have not yet found out whether the...
