Tile moving and grout breaking Discussion Thread

Tile moving and grout breaking

Hi fellow forum dwellers, am a distraught customer looking for some advice.

We did an extension and got water pipe UFH installed throughout the ground floor close to 100sqm. The WFH was left to dry for 4 weeks before the tiling was commissioned. We purchased glazed porcelain tiles from TilePlus in Oldbury. The store were made aware about the UFH. The tiler was a recommendation and we had seen their work. The work that I saw was on a standard floor (no...

Marmox multi boards and adhesive? Discussion Thread

Marmox multi boards and adhesive?

I'm going to be installing Marmox multi boards, on two (internal walls) I'll use 4mm, just so I have a nice flat surface to tile with (the surface underneath the plaster is a bit rough and not plumb. The 4mm need to be 'stuck' with cement based adhesive.

On the external two walls I'll use 20mm for some extra insulation, without eating too much into the room size. For these I'm going to be dot and dabbing, then using the fixing dowels.

For the...

Tanking Recommendation Discussion Thread

Tanking Recommendation

Hi, Im looking for a recommendation for a liquid tanking. I have to use a liquid tanking membrane, external tile board or replacing the walls isnt an option. The walls are plastered over plasterboard (paramount walls) Ive removed all the paint so back to bare plaster and they are clean and sound. (Tiles are 100 x 33cm large rectified ceramic tiles 7mm -they come in at 13kg a sqm so will be under 20kg limit)

Having read some bad reviews of tanking peeling off...

Sealing limestone pavers Discussion Thread

Sealing limestone pavers

Hi all, we've laid some limestone pavers and today used a stain protector as advised by the company who sold the pavers.

We used lithofin stain stop, which claims to not change the stones but it's made ours a lot darker which is gutting. It's been a long DIY job and I'm kicking myself for not doing a patch test.

Is there anyway to remove the sealant and restore the limestone?

I’ve bought a Montalit dry /wet cutting disk, but still the same problem.does anyone have any advice out there ?

1.2 x 1.2m large format tiles & Decoupling Mat? Discussion Thread

1.2 x 1.2m large format tiles & Decoupling Mat?

Hi, I have 45m2 of 1.2 x 1.2 Mirage 9mm floor tiles to lay. Never done this size before. I’m planning to lay a decoupling mat prior - are there any recommendations? Some products say not suitable for large format or very small. I’d like to keep the total build up as low as possible as there’s only 16mm to the threshold of a sliding door, but obviously don’t want any issues. Will certainly end up slightly higher than that threshold I...

Tilers Community Statistics

I’ve been sent statistics for the Facebook page “Tilers Community”. They seem to have an issue with us testing some things with a domain name we have ‘TilersCommunity.net‘. Check out the statistics for the page here. Sub 1500 actual posts in 3 years. That’s about 40 per month, or 1.2 per day. It isn’t a […]
