Was told by a fellow sparks today that the latest edition says metal clad distribution boards must be used in domestic installations is this true

I think the terminology actually used is "non-combustible" I can't be bothered to double check but I'll happily be corrected on this if I'm wrong
No No No No and No again they have to be made of fire retardant material or to put it another way a material that is not readily combustable

sorry but metal isis combustable once it reaches a certain temperature.
bassically all it will have to do for the reg is take so long before it combusts/burns

The article in the 'comic' is so wrong, it makes you wonder what they actually do for research in that Company.
I'll say it again, look at the IET web forum, and this subject has come up, with a lot of detail into it.
Basically, no, there will not be compulsory metal DB's , or switch enclosures required next year, but they must be 'non-flammable/(combustible?)'. Some currently meet the standard, some apparently dont in independent tests.
The standard for CU enclosures is changing in, iirc, March next year, when they will be required to be more fireproof than they are now.
