Was told by a fellow sparks today that the latest edition says metal clad distribution boards must be used in domestic installations is this true

The article in the 'comic' is so wrong, it makes you wonder what they actually do for research in that Company.
I'll say it again, look at the IET web forum, and this subject has come up, with a lot of detail into it.

Basically, no, there will not be compulsory metal DB's , or switch enclosures required next year, but they must be 'non-flammable/(combustible?)'. Some currently meet the standard, some apparently dont in independent tests.
The standard for CU enclosures is changing in, iirc, March next year, when they will be required to be more fireproof than they are now.

or simply put in a fireproof enclosure.
