As a project I am interested in getting some Liquid plastic, the sort you could possibly recover or repair insulated tools with, I realise it won't be up to VDE standards, but would like to give it a try anyway, anyone got any ideas as to where I can get some? tried The Shed, Wickes etc.

Marlin do polymer balls that can be melted and then shaped for small plastic hobby type of things

Thought of Maplins as I was leaving the sheds this morning, but my memory had gone by the time I had passed the store, thanks anyway will have a look see tomorrow.

whilst we're on the subject of getting hold of the unusual, anyone know where i can get a bowden cable repaired or replaced? pic shows where the plastic retaining collar has snapped on the groove. ( should be enlargeable).

Acetone and polystiryne.

Dissolve the polystiryne into the acetone until it's like gel and layer on.
Rather brittle if they're airbubbles but very diy :D

when operated, the collar is under tension. should have been made of metal, but that's Ford for you. their answer is to replace cable and lock assembly ( can't buy the cable separately ). parts cost £100. labour if they fit it £80.

Any customers who are metal workers? Maybe see if you could a new piece turned out of steel to replace the broken plastic moulding? If you could get the profile right, cut a slot down it to insert the cable.

We get something called copper reducing links which are basically a reducing ferrule and would work to replace that broken plastic part. I can't find a UK supplier though. You'd need to heat up the nipple and pull it off first then refit it using a solder pot afterwards. It's a lot of messing around to save a few quid though Tel.

**edit** Here's something similar Copper Round Pin Terminals - Cablecraft - http://www.cablecraft.co.uk/copper-pin-terminals.html
You could maybe try slotting one with a dremmel tool rather than removing the nipple.

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.

I'm not entirely certain as it's very tough, but brittle when cold.
