Best type of lighting in stables

I have built a stable block consisting of two stables and a store. I have applied to have mains electricity installed, and as part p won't apply Iwill be wiring them myself. My question is do led strip lights have as much shadow as led floods. I have been using 12 volt floods, which are great but do cast shadows. I was thinking of fitting weather proof led strip lights, hoping they would be similar to the florescent strip lights. Any ideas?

Absolute nonsense. It's building regs and the notification system you're thinking of, not the wiring regs.

I'm not convinced you are an electrician. Any electrician would know that the wiring regs do indeed apply, and that testing and certification is required.

I still thought an electrician had a duty to protect , people and live stock ?

(expensive horse's getting electricuted = bad for business)

Oh dear, seems like a little bit of knowledge and all that. The stable is in a field. No house on the land. No one lives in the stable, people that is, and it is not regularly occupied. It is therefore not a dwelling. BS7671 applies to dwellings, it says so clearly. If you think I am wrong, I will give you the name and address of my local council building control officer and you can correct him, as he confirmed the fact that BS7671 does not apply, and test and certificate was not required.

Here are the specific exclusions to BS7671 listed in Part 1. Can you see stables in it ?

Static Zap, read my posts, the installation WILL be tested. I qualified as an electrician in 1965! Haha, still qualified enough to know how to test an installation, 50 years in the trade altogether, with local dno.

More to the point, can you show me where a building that is not a dwelling is covered? Unless it tells me that a non-dwelling is covered I couldn't give a hoot.

BS7671 applies to all electrical installations subject to the exceptions given by any78
have a read of section 705. i believe horses come under the general scope of livestock, even if i prefer them in a plate with chips, mushrooms and a touch of garlic.

Only applies to buildings covered by the regs, such as agricultural buildings that house livestock. I'll go with the planning officer, suits me. My animals are safe, probably safer than if the wiring was done by some of the registered sparks whose work I've seen.

stables come under the broader classification of agriculural and horticultural. just because the BS does not specifically mention stables per se.
polo mints are not advertised as containing a nitrogen/oxygen mixture, but we all know there's a hole in the middle, same as with your thinking.

So far only DPG had spoken any sense. Anyway, this time next week I will have my stables safely wired and connected to the mains. Certainly upset a few folk on here! Anyway, I'll agree to differ on the facts. I know I'm right, even if I'm not (and I am) so what? Life's too short to worry about details.

It's a bizarre concept that farms, farm buildings, cow sheds, chicken sheds, outbuildings should all be covered by the wiring regs, but for some reason stables specifically are excluded? Why on earth would you think that would makes sense?

You can quite clearly see from the picture that you have provided that your earlier assertion that BS7671 applies only to dwellings is complete twaddle.

This should be enough evidence to consider that your understanding of the wiring regulations may not be as good as you thought. Certainly enough to consider wiring to the requirements of section 705.
