It was not unknown but thankfully rare that a pilot would land an aeroplane with the undercarriage up even though all the cockpit indications say it is up. Nowadays a computer will monitor the situation and provide a stark warning.

With this in mind I wonder if your colleague has done this work so often he has lessened awareness of what he is actually fitting ie In=40A triggers in his mind that the device has current overprotection as well as earth fault, or in other words he believes (not thinks and knows) he has fitted an RCBO. He has been unconsciously incompetent.

Maybe, like you, I would review what I have done later on and thereby detect the errors in my work. Perhaps he does not.

Just a thought.
I am very OCD and always check the type of device, especially with it being my signature on any paperwork.

I’m far from perfect. However I do try to get the basics right and if I’m unsure, I check the good book, ring tech help or ask another who’s more experienced. Rather than blindly stumbling on and getting it wrong. I’ve even asked on here and had members ‘jog my memory’ in a not so polite way. But with skin thicker than a rhinoceros it doesn’t phase me and I just note it for future.

Others though seem to think they don’t need to ask and get a bit uppity when questioned.

I've not been working in this industry very long and see few domestic installations, but in a small number of domestic jobs have seen several RCCBs being used to protect shower circuits. I tend to believe it comes down to a lack of knowledge as these installations all predated common used of RCBOs.

Don’t know who was worse on today’s discovery, the ‘electrician’ who charged £800 for this cu change or the meter installer

By the way thats 3 bits of 2.5mm cpc in place of a 16mm earth

Terrible that so-called "electricians" don't know their 2.5 times table...

At least they used 2mm sleeving rather than baggy trousers, so @westward10 would probably give it a pass

Currently doing a EICR at my mums as she wants the board changing and moving from under the stairs.

Recently she had a garden room built and they took the power by spurring off an outdoor socket.

Now I’m hazarding a guess they didn’t bother their arses to check the circuit prior. Because there’s no minor works Cert for a start and even with that ‘spur’ disconnected I still get massive reading on the CPC - CPC.

It starts at 2.77k-ohms and gradually creeps up to around 2.95k-ohms, then jumps to 4.11k-ohms before settling at 3.77k-ohms.

Can’t wait to go hunting for this fault as loads of the sockets are inaccessible and means emptying rooms. 🙄🙄

L-L & N-N get same reading.
