At a house today to do a job. Had to pull the fuse and found the attached in the meter cupboard. Customer tells me there is another unit in the garage, both serve a caravan (I didn't verify this as it had nothing to do with my work). Both units have had the SWA made-off with BS951 clamps. One of the units was installed yesterday by the 'local' unregistered electrician. Explained to the customer it was wrong, but she didn't care!

You can tell the standard this guy works too, just by looking how he is fixing the 2 SWA cables to the wall in pic# 2. I doubt if the guy even gave a second thought to crushing the cores together using a 951 clamp!!

unfortunately while you can buy all that gear at the big orange shed armoured glands don't come with instructions and fitting them is a black art to joe public.lol

seen a hot tub supply when on a domestic test, looked to have been wired by a sparks on first impressions, 16a mcb fedding a neatly cleated 2.5mm 3 core swa fed to a 16a ip66 isolator, i thought i'll just check a gland for tightness/.corrosion and pulled back the sheath ad cut my hand on the unterminated strands poking everywhere, needless to say it didn't look so neat when i had to pull slack out of the corners to gland properly!

He's not a DIYer. He was a 'navel sparky', and works for a local builder usually. Not aware he has any quals though. Went to a house last year where the shower isolator he fitted had caught fire.
