At a house today to do a job. Had to pull the fuse and found the attached in the meter cupboard. Customer tells me there is another unit in the garage, both serve a caravan (I didn't verify this as it had nothing to do with my work). Both units have had the SWA made-off with BS951 clamps. One of the units was installed yesterday by the 'local' unregistered electrician. Explained to the customer it was wrong, but she didn't care!

if the box your connecting into is plastic, is it still best to use the frying pan and brass nut and bolt and bring an earth from the bolt to the earth point in the box yea?? even though the box is plastic and not metal?

What are peoples thoughts with earthing the banjo or 'frying pan' as named above? I always earth at both ends even if armour is not being used as the cpc. A bloke who I work with just does it at one end when armour is not used as cpc.

If the box is plastic, take the CPC straight to the accessory, unless it doesn't need a CPC, such as a switch. In this case, take it to the box.

as for using a banjo, if the item you are glanding to is unpainted metal, then IMO there is no need for the banjo. It is important though, that the glandplate, trunking, conduit box ect is effectively connected to the MET or CPC by a material that has at least the same adiabatic rating as the largest CPC required for the cables. If the armour is used as a bonding conductor for TNC-S, then you need to ensure that the cable used as a link is upto the job using the appropriate table.

The SWA would need to be a pretty big cable to allow you to use the armouring as the bonding conductor on a TNC-S system!! lol!!

Having not been apprenticed, I have learnt a lot from reading, and seeing/putting right work I have see, that's what's great about this forum, the unwritten, however if I do something for the first time I always consult the experts, I'm qualified, but its no substitute for experience!
