Did a partial re-wire last week for a friend who lives in a 1900s house (lights wired with rubberised cable!)

Found about 20kg of lead pipe under the floor when jemmying up boards... Thank you very much, that will make a few quid at the scrappy!

That a normal sort of thing to find in an older house?! I don't have much dealing with pre-1950s properties...

Anyone got any stories of valuable things found under floors and in lofts?!

Think I might start checking under floorboards with the cash people have found. Just need to think of a valid reason why I'm looking under the boards when the customer got me in to change some lamps. I'll blind them with science!

Strangest thing i found was a little cluster of old american stamps, maybe 100-120 years old in a small packet just tucked under a joist. I kept them for ages but just forgot to get around to having them looked at my a stamp nerd somewhere. Dont know anything about stamps but figured they may hold some sort of value. Ended up putting them through the wash.....standard.

Oh....i just sort of looked. F all is the answer considering their condition. The spin wash at 30 degrees definitely wouldn't have helped my cause at auction either....would have smelt nice and stopped the colours running though.

Can remember Doing a storage heating install across from kilmarnocks rugby park football stadium.

Old geezer had at least 40 carrier bags stuffed full of Mayfair and penthouse mags under the floor!!!

In an attic once I found a newspaper from July 21st 1969. It was the day Armstrong and co landed on the moon. Was a huge spread about it on front page. I'm a bit of a Astronomy geek myself so I kept it. (House was empty)

thats what that lead pipe will have been for..

when i was an apprentice i found 40 odd p**N mags on top of a wardrobe, in a sleeping room at a hospital, the room was used by visiting doctors. i made plenty of excuses for where i was at lunch time lol

When serving my time we where in the site office an old building on the rows in Chester, when all of a sudden one off the labourers ran in shouting to get the police as he had found a mummified baby under the floorboards. The site agent went out to have a look at this mummified baby when he got there a few more boards had been pulled up to reveal a mummified rat it wasn't a baby but a cat.

Usual sort of thing, for me; ubiquitous Players packets (did electricians of old smoke nothing else?), lead sheathed cable, disconnected cotton-covered singles in wooden trunking, 1950's newspapers, mummified rats.... No 'norp', cash, or guns, so far, but I live in hope!

got into the cellar to check out the existing arrangements etc...and found they`d been using the lead water pipe as a means of earthing....
check out the new colours on the dis board as well...lol..
did a Ze...0.31...so i was happy for it to continue until the DNO came to PME it....
