    Fire rated or not

I do hope so, I've fitted thousands of the things The open back is much better for lamp life than baked bean can designs that concentrate heat.

Has my UK property had its 10 year inspection performed correctly?

If I'm reading that right whoever did the original install shouldn't have used TNC-S earthing at that reading so I guess the latest tester is assuming it should be treated as/converted to TT? Regs are not retro-active in the same way an old car doesn't need ABS to be considered safe but any new...

    Inspection&Test and EICR

I'm not sure I've said anything especially pro scheme? I think they're quite flawed and have said such, feel free to highlight anything that contradicts that. But they are the structure that's in place and I think working around them doesn't make business sense. Only yesterday I was having a...

    Inspection&Test and EICR

I wouldn't care to defend the schemes and yes a lot of dross finds it's way past their checks and onto their paperwork, but like it or not they are the industries compliance mechanism so working around them just seems a faff and self restricting and would make people question you. I don't...

undersized cable provided by electric hob/cooker manufacturer?

Well there's your answer, it's not 1.5, it's 1.5*2. I've always wondered why more use isn't made of parallel runs.

    Recessed lighting

Amazing how much time decent accessories save, though. When clients buy their own kit and want me to quote on fitting it there's times I feel like offering two prices based on what they turn up with, I recall being stung with nasty 12v lights that each required two JBs when decent ones had a...

    Inspection&Test and EICR

I dunno about most, there's a shocking amount of ignorance out there. Anyone can buy a pad of certs and go testing, and going on some of what I see that's exactly what some people do! (And that's not to say I don't see scheme certs too that should have been printed on softer paper, at least...

undersized cable provided by electric hob/cooker manufacturer?

Is it a 5 core with parallel L+N? This is quite a nifty solution imo and far nicer to work with than 4mm flex. If the hob is 7.4kW rated it won't be managing the load down from that, I've seen 5 ring hobs that manage the load to 3 kW, complete with plug top, complete junk IMO.

    Condensation in outside light.

Is it a retaining wall? If so I'm of the opinion penetrating damp is almost impossible to avoid. Make a channel underneath for runoff and slosh resin/silicon gel etc over the glands. Personally I convert all my garden lighting at low level to 12v, using mr16, G4, or 12v caravan bulbs, with...

Have I possibly damaged the underfloor heating mat?

Your readings sound perfect, you want a mega high reading to earth, generally tie l+n together and test L+n to e but for an element it won't matter L to n on insulation test will test zero as it's such a high scale v. low resistance.

UK High PSCC and strange readings - help much appreciated

Yes the megger 17xx defaulting to low current every time is annoying. Low current is good for nowt more than making observations IMO. Also while on test leads, my Megger was acting up on continuity tests on multiple lead sets, a gentle tap with the pliers on the inserted test lead plug stops...
