    Nylon snap in bush

Sdproducts do snap bushings, but a 20 mm hole is narrowed considerably. Out of interest do you use a punch to make holes, or holesaw I've been looking for a plier like tool as the metal is so thin a holesaw makes a poor opening.

    Out of my depth

It will be Monday before I can get some pics of the plates. The neutral was provided at the panel board so I connected to it. I believe the design is not fit for what is required. Just to clarify the transformers are at metering 415 3 phase in 1000 v 3 phase out then cable run, step down...

    Out of my depth

There's a 415 to 1000 v transformer at fed from panel board at supply authority meter, then the 4 core 70 upto the 1000v 415 step down transformer which feeds a panel board in the shed. I took a small rcd consumer unit fed from a 32 a Mccb of this panel board. And when I went to live test the...

    Out of my depth

It's hundreds of metres of 4 core 70 mm I insulation tested it and no faults I can't find a value m ohm per metre for 70 mm but I will interconnect my neutral with each phase and make sure they are the same. I only have a seaward multi tester is this suitable for such a large cable...

    Out of my depth

I was asked to install a small consumer unit at the end of step down transformer. The consumer unit is fed from a panel board put in place for a future wind turbine project . The consumer unit feeds a socket and a light. This is all in a metal container that is earth roded with bare tape and...

    Torque Screwdrivers

I bought a Wiha digital one, a few years ago after a melted connection was found in one of my boards. When set to manufacturers instructions I was shocked at how slack the connections can be. I am of the opinion the mcbs etc should be engineered to be stronger instead of to a minimum.

    British standards and tables

Is there a reason that the tables in 7671, don't reference the standards for cables. The cables are embossed with the standard it would be much easier if the table referenced the bs numbers it applied to. I know it's not difficult to work out but it leaves it open to interpretation.

How to deal with Pyro Cable?

Pyro a dark art ?. You're electricians even if you never do it, is it still not part of the apprenticeship you can read the instructions on the bloody packet. Just because you can't stick it in connectors and wrap it in tape people won't work with it. I've seen it still serviceable in domestic...

    Kneeling Board For Attic?

That's the very thing . I've been googling and any other search engine changing the key words around its been driving me mad. I've used what's ever in the loft before and had a couple of tilts thinking I'm going through, nearly given mysel heart failure. Thank you very much for your help.

    Kneeling Board For Attic?

Im wondering if any body has used a kneeling board in attics. The kit I'm looking for was A kind of folding contraption like a mug holder for the wall. You could turn it into a kneeling board or push it narrow and it would become a walkway. First seen them maybe 8 years ago. Googles failed me...

What Was Your Last Tool And What Is Your Next?!?!

Recently bought a earth leakage clamp meter, and got knipex plier wrench on the way. Next thing should be some sort of behavior shock collar that'll give me a belt when I reach for the switch card. Would post links but I'm useless.

Ok, I admit it, I'm stumped......

With the juice of and the orange and greys of valves removed is the switch closed. If it's open and there's a live on the orange could there be link passing a feed to valve at junction box, maybe the boiler pump arrangements have been changed. Ie over run and boiler is feeding outgoing side of...

Ok, I admit it, I'm stumped......

Has the gas man changed the body of valve maybe at fully open the spindle is jamming ,and the valve not returning and so not breaking the micro switch.

    bizarre coal burner system

I worked on something that sounds similiar, it was an old farm house where the Rayburn had been converted to burn heating oil. The cylinder stat controlled the pump as in a normal coal fired system and I had 2 stats which I was unsure of , a plumber I worked with repaired it and his explanation...

    pump staying on

Could well be sticking valve, boiler cutting out on hi limit stat but pump continuing to run. Do plumbers install a radiator to bypass the heating valve, for heat dissipation in the event of closed valve. Just a general question, it seems to ring a bell. Or maybe I'm just havering.

    Am I being harsh?

I've seen individual fittings with a keys witch alongside, but mostly separate feed from board to bank of contractors on a board extension controlled from key switch at panel. Testing lights by isolating at Mcb's is frowned upon now.

    Suggestions for makinging holes

I like the irwin flat bits, they do a extension as well in various lengths that's quick release. Much better than those with the Allen grub screws. A thumbs up for the Bosch progressors. I've got a 20mm punch for metal that does a good job, I'm prone to making a mess with holesaws. Probably to...
