    The dreaded Square D....

Yes it ok I realise you did not do the test. YES QOE will fit. The size of the tails is irrelevant in regarding the main switch size. What you need to know is what OCPD is protecting the tails and what load is being drawn on those tails

    The dreaded Square D....

That That observation dont sound correct. How can a main switch be to high . It can only be too low. just to add You can still buy replacement mcbs from CEF called QOE range

I seam to remember one of the first thing we did at college was joining cables by platting and soldering them together. Never used the method in the real world. We did have an old boy lecturer though ?

    Recessing consumer unit

Just make sure you temporarily blank off the top of conduits otherwise you might end up with dust and debris getting into the DB

    Recessing consumer unit

I would run a couple of 25mm conduits inside the wall from the DB going into the floor/ loft above just in case you have to add circuits in the future .

Two houses fed of one houses mains - what are my rights.

Agree with Lucien My concern is the melting neutral. The only reason this would happen is due to a loose connection due to poor workmanship not overloading the circuit. If you had overloaded the circuit. Then the fuse or mcb should of operated to prevent the overheating.

New home. Is it 3 phase?

Yes I think the consumer unit marked swimming pool is probley for the pump etc and as the op says the 3phase switched fuse is forthe heater.

New home. Is it 3 phase?

Yes large switch with the red yellow and blue circles is a 3phase switched fuse . the unit marked up pool is single phase 1 way consumer unit. Do you have a picture of your main electric meter ? As SJD says I would want to check where those disconnect cables go to or come from.

    EICR code?

The holes in the top where the cables come out may have to much of a gap and may warrant a code 3 . But I would not code it myself unless I'm missing something.

    EICR minimum for rental properties

When I first looked I thought it said EBADS not sure but firstly it's in the wrong section and secondly its now ADS. UK Not qualified to do EICR For the PRS scheme

There is a big difference between being able to test circuits and carrying out EICR there's a lot more to an EICR such as the large amount if visual inspections

So is it still permitted today . Or is it in the manufacturing instructions ? I always thought the max permitted load of a 16amp socket was 16 amps

UK Not qualified to do EICR For the PRS scheme

I dont believe there are any qualifications required to carry out EICRs . I thought you just have to show competence. Mind you 2391 may help show you have competence

Meter options for a 16A commando socket?

Just checking are you protecting a 16 amp socket with a 20 amp mcb . I would use a 20 amp rotary isolator instead of the socket. Other wise you would you would need a 16 amp mcb and rcd protection for the socket outlet

The amount of time I go into large commercial building and ask the where the main water stop tap ss and know one knows. I always suggest they should locate it incase there is a water leak and they need to turn the water off. Agree with cliff we always have to do a lot of free investigation work...
