    Service head query

Attached are a couple of photos of the wooden trunking from the cellar along with some lengths of the red and black vir cable. The wire on top of the trunking is the earth. Tony

    Service head query

The house is Victorian. There are still some long sections of wooden conduit in the cellar containing one red and one black VIR cable. A separate earth cable of tiny cross section is also present. All the old cables are disconnected. This seems to have been done when the house was rewired with...

    Service head query

Should I be charging them to come and look at? I can get some tickets printed, perhaps get a caterer in... I definitely like the idea of restoring it, as a conversation piece. I thought the DNOs were under some obligation to have completed a replacement programme for a certain type of service...

    Service head query

Attached is a picture of the service head at our house. Is this a type that the DNO should replace for free upon notification? It looks very old, and may have a fused neutral line, I can't quite see through the sight glass to see whether this is the case. The conductors going to the meter look...

    Anyone recognise this MCB/switch?

The CU is is a property I'm buying. I think the cover is home made. It certainly has no IP rating with that big hole in it. I think it's as old Wylex fuse box behind the cover. The main switch lever is broken as is the switch on the mystery MCB, which does look like a Dorman Smith - thanks to...

    Anyone recognise this MCB/switch?

Does anyone recognise the switch at the far right-hand end of this consumer unit; the one marked 'LIGHTS' ? Is it an MCB or a switch? Thanks

    about tsx etg 3022

No, it connects directly to the mobile phone network using its own sim card. See http://www.schneider-electric.it/sites/italy/it/supporto/libreria-automazione-e-controllo/download/SM_0046.pdf

    Tunnel lighting

Are two-way switches allowed for the tunnel problem? (I can't see how a one way switch can control one light but cut the power another.) :-)

    Clean earth on UPS

Oh, just re-read grantr37's reply. He didn't mention warning labels for the fixed items fed from the UPS. I'd recommend you apply a warning label to any dist board or outlet to say it is fed from a UPS and may remain live even if the supply is isolated. Canford have the right sort of thing at...

    Clean earth on UPS

Only thing I can add to grantr37's comprehensive reply is to try to do all your hole drilling of the dist board outside of the room, and be rigorous with catching any waste you have to make in the room, especially if cutting metal.

advice needed r.e covering my arse!!!

The timing of events and communications with your boss will be important. I would make your own accurate notes as to how you got into this situation, but do not share them on any public forum! I doubt a letter from work will help. The only sort of letter that will work is one where they accept...

Nema 6-20R Recepticle Compatibility In The Uk

Hi Joe, The NEMA6-20 plug/recepticle is designed to connect equipment to two phases with a potential difference of 240V between them, i.e. the North American "split phase" standard. The plug/recepticle is limited to appliances requiring less that 5KW of power, so 10KVA UPS would have been...

    Heater start up currents

Schuko seems to fit the OP's description. They are rated to 16A. Hope the OP can get a full description of what tripped when the MCBs were changed.

    Heater start up currents

The soft-start unit would be installed between the contactor and the load.

    Re Window actuators...

So, any reason not to supply the actuator from the nearest ceiling rose? Also, are the any small, neater options for fusing the unit than a fused spur?

    Replacement shower cable

I've used a Bosch PMF180E with the diamond blade to remove the grout between the tiles, pulled them off and replace with new after needing to do a similar job. But I had spare matching tiles to hand. Might be an option if the 6mm really won't do.
