    Query on cable calcs

That's what I thought but in my friends home study it's the other way round... (It) is the worked out value from In over factors rather than (Iz)worked out from In over factors. Then Iz was the value taken from the tables to get the cable size.

    Query on cable calcs

Just a quick one.... When working out cable calcs I have always used the Ib<equal to In<equal to Iz. Unless overload protection is not required for the cable Iz can be taken from Ib. (It)...i believe is the tabulated values in the tables in appendix 4. Iz is the current-carrying capacity of...

    Tv on wall

Thanks for the replies...chaps, i do see your point with the isolation part, but i could reach behind and switch off the tv as its not right against the wall, its also double insulated tv, so very unlikely to recieve a shock from this unless its physically damaged and then local isolation near...

    Tv set up help

Thanks for the replies chaps....... There is a site which was really good showing different set ups to have using labgear distribution systems, plus they were very helpful on the phone, to the point where they will send you info on your exact requirements, if what you want is not on there...

    Tv on wall

I will definitlely keep the mains cables away from the signal cables in the wall and maybe run a screened Ethernet to the tv just in case. The dual box should be ok to house both sets of cables though (mains one side and signals the other)or would you have seperate boxes?

    Tv set up help

I was going to use the magic eyes to change the channels. I thought you could use one of those labgear distribution amplifiers where you have lnb1 and 2 inputs from the dish then output down to the skybox and signal back up to amplifier to serve other tvs off this, then main tv straight from...

    Tv on wall

I'm installing metal dual box flushed into the wall with single skt on one side plus single modular faceplate on the other with hdmi,coax,cat5/6 cables coming straight out of faceplate cutout hole to tv. A bit of a silly question but Is this a popular way to install this.....

    Less sensitive smoke alarms

having d/b change with small alterations......does this mean mains smokes are required for this amount of work or just for full rewire, existing battery operated smokes fitted at the moment

    Less sensitive smoke alarms

Sorry to jump in on thread...... To comply with part B of building regs it says mains interlinked fire alarms to be fitted on new builds plus refurbished houses. What exactly does it mean by refurbished.....is it just relating to a rewire ?

    Lighting Circuits

The only thing is you would never know if you had a problem with a broken cpc on the other circuit, but at least you would be providing earth protection to that circuit through the switch cpc connection which is better than nothing. Then hopefully the earth fault would be picked up at some...

    Lighting Circuits

Thanks for the replies chaps...... I have always connected both cpc's but have seen the 3-core cpc cut off from the upstairs circuit at the downstairs end....

    Lighting Circuits

Maybe a bit of a silly question but im interested in what you would do...... 2 gang switch situated in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs, 1x switch operates light in downstairs hallway off the downstairs lighting circuit and the other switch is the 2 way switch operating the upstairs...

    TT system bad earth help

Your right a 30mA RCD will protect right upto 1667 ohms.... Maybe people naturally worry about the stability around the 200 ohm value, due to the fact the regs states the Ra becomes unstable >200 ohms, so they dont want to be close to that 200 value even though there is a buffer upto 1667...

    TT system bad earth help

Out of interest....if somebody was to install an earth rod on a TT and the Ra was bang on 200 ohms, then years later you tested the earth rod at an Ra of say 280 ohms with the install value unknown to you, what would your opinion be of the person that installed it.....?

    TT system bad earth help

I definitely couldnt agree more with what you have pointed out Wirepuller....to achieve an Ra as low as possible, so both devices will protect against earth faults, so your not solely reliant on the RCD. Also as normal, there was a higher rated RCD on the main and a 30mA RCD protecting the...

    TT system bad earth help

Your right... but the RCD is used for fault protection which will trip an RCD rated at 30mA with a PEFC at 7.66 amps, plus it will satisfy the (less than or equal to) 50 volt rule....30 ohms x 0.03 amps = 0.9 volts The overcurrent device will only satisfy protection against overload in this...

Motor Protection Circuit Breaker (MPCB) - on a small pump

Exactly what Malcom has said.... plus just to add to that, close motor overload protection is required if greater than 0.37kw which is normally incorperated with the control equipment, (adjustable thermal overload protection), plus your normal fuse protection up-stream. If below 0.37kw then...

    3mtr Rules

Rockingit... The 16.0mm Tw/E cable runs from the meter cupboard through the wall then under the floor upstairs, then down 1mtr inside the stud wall to the Cu. The stud wall bit is the portion of cable which is less than 50mm both sides of the wall which is unprotected. Or shouldnt i worry as you...
