As an adult learner I understand that any equipment connected to a circuit that may be damaged by the IR test voltage should be disconnected. I watched an electrician carry out an EICR on a property I rent. On a ring final circuit he removed the plugs fom the sockets before carrying out the...
As a keen adult learner any help would be appreciated
I understand that an RCD trips when there is an imbalance detected between L and N.
If a 30mA RCD is monitoring several circuits (in a split board for example) and one of the circuits is protected by a 32A Type B MCB. I'm trying to...
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I found this on an electricians youTube video and can't understand why he didn't use an pirana nut or earth plate like this?
As a trainee can I ask why the banjo is on the outside of the Wiska box. I understand that the earthing of the SWA must be maintained but would having the banjo outside mean you need to drill through the IP66 box to connect to earth and by doing that are you not compromising the IP rating? I...
Thanks for getting back to me.
Thank you for replying. I've taken the cover off but the feed cable disappears behind a control panel and I'm not keen to dismantle the boiler to trace the feed to see how it's terminated - I know my limitations . Thanks again.

Yes, you're correct, the clipped cable is to the light. I've had alook at the boiler with the side cover off but the feed cable disappears under the control panel and I can't see how it's terminated - I'm not keen to dismantle the boler to trace the feed cable. The wiring diagram provided says...
Thanks for getting back to me. The cable certainly feels like swa or hi tuff. The cable goes into the loft and is black there - it's been painted white outside. It presumably goes back to the wiring centre fot the central heating but I'm not going in there!! It's not clipped at all outside...
My sister has a cable feeding an outside boiler (see image). I want to tidy it up by adding a new piece of cable as shown. I can't see any ends of the existing cable to determine whether it's SWA or Hi-tuff. Is there any way of determing whether this cable is swa?
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's quite a complicated set up (for me). It's one of those outdoor Christmas tree effect decorations (see pic) with a central pole and 11 strands coming from the top - each strand has 23 LEDs. I'm not at the location of the lights at the moment so can't say...
