Are you by any chance using retro-fit "micro" LED (for example cooker lamps in G4 capsule), or MR16 12V replacements for halogens? Both these, and potentially other similar combinations will use LED lamp A with transformer/driver B, and are the type most likely to be a problem.
For example...
I was so annoyed with the crappy JB2 that I phoned Collingwood to grumble. The response was pretty lame, and they had little to say about them. I called them unfit for purpose, and surprisingly I wasn't much contradicted!
- But they did say JB4 was better, so that sounds like a good tip. Might...
OK, this should be easy for someone.
Firstly, let's assume a strong enough signal to take passive TV splitter at the bottom end of the cable from conventional aerial.
Is it reasonable then, to take an existing single TV outlet in a standard inset wall metal back box with front TV socket plate...
I have used Collingwood JB2 series connectors only the once, and won't touch them again. They are pointless anyhow, use your own decent sized box and just make the series connections your own joints. The JB2 are small and incredibly fiddly to fit, the H07 needs to be cut and trimmed to such an...
If it's now an internal wall, I can't really see what would be the problem. (Not cavity filled with anything, esp polystyrene beads?). Regs call only for "appropriate" support to avoid excess strain, and OSG says OK for 5M provided there is a support radius. That would prevent drilling a hole...
Alan. I can see you are having some problems, so perhaps people are not being clear, but it's VERY important you understand it, so here you are:
1MM^2 cross sectional area.
Now for a solid 1mm conductor, 1 = Pi *r^2. -So what is r?
r = sqrt (1/Pi) = 0.564mm, hence D = 1.13mm .
In this example...
You are not making your question clear Alan. Care to re-phrase? (There are normally seven conductors in the stranded cables we use. Measure diameter of one, work out CSA. You did that at school)
If you are fitting them into existing fully enclosed "bean can" style downlight fittings, don't necessarily expect them to provide the manufacturers lifetime, especially with the brighter ones. There is not much chance for the heat to escape. 7W LED produces about 6W of heat which needs to get...
I was on a domestic site the other day in the pitch dark, surveying for a customer who has a skinny 4 core SWA laid to their shed already and now wants a 13A socket. It was not possible to make out the cable embossed markings since they were underground, but my vernier caliper on a single strand...
FYI, I think the Immersun (which is now available again despite ceasing trading some time ago) has inbuilt timer to control it's second (or third) output as a boost. Would save faff. More expensive than IBoost mind.
It can be hard to get poor workmanship fixed.
Sadly it's all about finish, and many people don't really appreciate what goes on behind their perfect smooth plaster surfaces. In the building trade, poor practice can still come out winning glowing reviews from customers.
Interesting.
I find H07RN-F to be thicker and heavier and more floppy than the harder sheathed thinner H05xx-x stocked by most wholesalers.
I find this http://www.goldwingcable.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/H05RR-F-Technical-data1.pdf which reads "This is unsuitable for permanent outdoor use...
Awful workmanship, It’s that sort of thing which, with some certainty, will cause an unfortunate future electrician to need to tear the ceiling down to find faults. Every one of those joints and junctions is wrong in more ways than one.
And I’d take them up not only on the electrics, but in the...
If it's visible and out of any obvious danger, I'd use H07RN-F (Not to be confused with H05RN-F which most suppliers stock but is less resilient, and personally I wouldn't use). You'll probably have to mail order the H07. It's tough stuff. Very rubbery :)
