    Underfloor Heat Mat

The best solution to your problem would be the "Warmup" DWS loose wire system. I have just installed this system straight onto chipboard as per manufacturers instructions - http://www.warmup.co.uk/pdf-uk_DWS_V0906.pdf.phtml (page 7). The wire is only 3mm thick so should sit in the tile adhesive...

    Hot tub trips MCB

The hot tub I have installed at home is running through a separte CU - 40A 30mA rcd and 32A 'B' curve MCB & 15m 4mm2 3C SWA. My hot tub is also canadian (bought from JTF Wholesale) and the power reqirements in the manual are rather confusing but state (for smaller models) 230v 16A 3 wires & (for...

    Adding a second consumer unit

You can get the DNO out to pull the fuse, but most of the ones I come across have no seal on them anyway! ;) I will fit a seal if I find one missing, a nice DNO bloke gave me a handfull of seals for when I came across a main fuse without one.

    calibration certification

I have a Megger 1552 & a Calcard and keep a log sheet of the readings taken every week or so. At my last Elecsa assesment the assessor was well chuffed and didn't see any problem with calibration once every three years or when there is a noticable deviation of the calcard readings. He stated...

    Phone points help please...

2 & 5, 3 is only required if you have an old solenoid ringer phone. Connecting 3 can actually cause noise and lessen broadband speeds.

    Car electrical fault

sounds like a bad earth problem to me. You will find them behind driver and passenger kick panels. Or the other possibility is a fuse blown, there may be more than 1 fuse box, ie: under dash & under bonnet. There is nearly always 2 fuses for a radio, 1 for the memory feed (stays live all the...

    Ceiling Lampholder Wiring Help

It's the same as adding to a circuit wired in red/black with brown/blue. That is mixing colours but it's the standard. At least it was sleeved indicating that it was a live conductor. If I saw brown on black I would assume it was a live conductor.

It would only be Part P if it shares an electric meter with a domestic propety ie: flat above on same meter as shop.

    Wiring question

What about fitting an RCD FCU in the bed room to feed your new triple socket behind TV? Cables could be 1.5mm put in oval conduit? As Nick suggests all bonding needs to be upto scratch.

    U/S Drill Battery?

I have taken them apart before today (Atlas Copco & DeWalt) & replaced the cells. I have rebuilt several packs this way. I get new cells from CPC | CPC - Over 100, 000 products from one of the worlds leading distributors of electronic and related products. but they have been Ni-Cad packs, I...

    megger powersuite

If you contact Megger they will send you a 30 day free trial CD. I have been using that for the last 18 months with a Megger DV4 PAT tester & a Megger 1552. I complete EIC's manually because the 1552 has no bluetooth, but I think the certificates look more professional done on computer than in...

RCD testing the new wylex RCBOs

My 1552 came complete with the probe. I always test the RCBO at a point on the circuit as this would be more like a real fault, on radials I always test at the furthest point. Maybe it makes no difference but it's just the way I have always tested RCD's & RCBO's.

    Spur from Ring Main

The maximum load (theroreticaly) that can be drawn through a double socket is 26A (2x 13A), the CCC of 2.5mm T&E when clipped direct is 27A, so why would you need a larger conductor CSA? As mentioned by Lenny, page 362 of the BRB. Its all there cable CSA unfused, fused spurs, etc.

    Spur from Ring Main

The way I was taught was that: Only 1 spur off any socket or juction point of the ring circuit. No more than 1 double socket on that spur - unless the spur is protected by a 13A FCU. Minimum cable size of 1.5mm for 13A FCU, 2.5mm for double socket. The reason you are not allowed to spur...

    Finding a 2 pin re-wireable razor plug.

IIRC uk shaver plugs have a different pin spacing than european 2 pin plugs, as i tried to fit a POWER CONNECTIONS|SCP.BLACK.10A|SCHUKO TO UK PLUG BLACK/10A | CPC schuko to uk adaptor plug to a toothbrush charger and it was having none of it!
