    Two showers

hello. there is a device on the market(i have answered this query before..in january..thread was called max demand) called a "shower priority switch" there are two versions one where you nominate prioity and the other is on a first come first serve basis.they are available in a 2 or 4 module...

    Water heaters

3kw equates to 12.5amp each at 240 volt so 25amp should cover both. or at 230 volt 13amps each. I've not come accross a 25 amp fuse before...but 30amp or 32amp fuse will provide protection for your 4mm cable.(existing) Your switches(local isolators) however would probably need to be rated for...

    One socket trips mcb

you could check that the neutral is connected to the correct "rcd dedicated" bus bar in the consumer unit and that all connections are tight.

    17th cheapest way

I thought I should share with you the cheapest way to get 17th edition, for those that have to sit full exam. I used ELECTACOURSE.COM 59quid inc vat for downloadable course to study at your own pace.Their online exam simulator was great for practice questions. The exam itself is then applied for...

Follow up: REALLY Low reading PFC Test

Hi. Sounds to me that you have a dodgy neutral connection, possibly somewhere near the origin. For your neutral bar to show live there must be a break somewhere, and the current between your live neutral bar is not flowing home. Also I'm not quite sure about your post concerning 2 earth...

    tt or tns?

sounds pretty obviously a TN-S.Separate earth throughout.Your ZE reading is also too high for TN-cs. The suppliers have moved away from using these systems nowadays due to economical reasons and safety(cost of extra cable, and possibility of gypos stealing it for scrap) But as it is a pretty...

    Rewiring Lighting Ballast

The cables used to go from the ballast to the lampholder are fibreglas insulated.I would use 1.5mm heatresistant flex to extend your wiring.Three core is probably best, then you could also earth the shade of your grow lamp. You could snip the white and black wires and if you are concerned about...

    light fault

sounds to me like your transformers packed in! try sticking a plug top on the end of your fitting before you start ripping floors up just to check fitting is ok or maybe try wireing a pendant drop with lamp(borrow from other room)into your choc box.Let us know.

    Switch Wiring Problem

No good ones, mainly habit,I guess. I seem to remember our tech teacher steering us away from using 1.0mm.I think when using 1.0mm the maximum circuit length on a type B breaker is about 35m,whereas with 1.5 it is over 50m(could be rubbish, going from memory here)And the fear was someone coming...

    Two questions about my garage

Hi, your 63amp doesn't refer to its rated tripping current,-it is the amount of copper in the terminals,.As for your defective trip sometimes if you manually operate the switch a few times this can bring it back to life but if it still fails to operate on the test button you should indeed...

    Discrimination problems

Perhaps each of your air con units take more than 10amp.Is it the split type with an indoor and an outdoor unit (both single phase) or are they 3phase.I think you would need to check actual loadings under a variety of conditions, heating and cooling. You might find that they each take 16amps and...

    Switch Wiring Problem

Speak for yourself my friend! I have always used twin brown, and twin red way back when. But then we wouldn't use 1mm either. Each to their own.

    Discrimination problems

What is the loading on your consumer units?Have you checked actual loading with tong tester?Perhaps you have a faulty rcbo which should be tripping and isn't--maybe you have an intermittent fault on cable or equipment which only shows after it heats up.ie,maybe you have a short circuit fault...

    3 phase voltages

I was under the impression that it was 2 "hots" in and locally sourced neutral(earth)for your centre tap out.giving 230 out or 460 if reqd(eg welder) But I bow to your supierior knowledge.:o
