    Switch fuse for tails

Thanks MDJ but they are just too industrial looking. I know I could potentially box it in, but really need something that looks 'ok' if on show in the house. Will probably end up near the ceiling in a bedroom. If it is hidden away I worry they might not realise it is there if the fuse blows -...

    Switch fuse for tails

Am assuming here it is would be unwise to try and fit it in the meter cupboard outside.

    Switch fuse for tails

Potentially as much as I want - the room where it will sit is going to be remodelled - currently a kitchen it will end up as a bedroom.

    Switch fuse for tails

Thank you for a now helpful response. Someone else suggested Schneider but no model name given. Yes, I can ask my wholesaler but they are only likely to suggest whatever they have in stock. I am looking for recommendations of what others have successfully used. A model number would be useful so...

    Switch fuse for tails

To MDJ - Oh dear - is this now going to turn into a slanging match? I hope not. A genuine contractor here asking a genuine question about a real-life on-the-job scenario. As a sole-trader it is at times difficult to know exactly what to do for the best in some circumstances, hence my question...

    Switch fuse for tails

New position of replacement Consumer Unit for my customer is now going to be 7m away from the supply head. DNO fuse is 100A BS1361 and this is a large house so I still need a (potential) 100A supply. I believe that I am supposed to fit a switch fuse if tails are over 3m long. Firstly, am unclear...

RCD Tripping Hell with high load

This won't help the OP with his problem, but what worries me is that he says the RCD had been bypassed. It is an RCD mainswitch - how exactly had it been bypassed?!?!?!

Which smokes to fit - mains or battery powered?

I don't normally get involved in this but have been asked by customer to fit smoke alarms - this is for a property that will be rented out. I know that mains powered smokes used to be the way to go in this situation as tenants tended to take out the PP3 batteries to use in other equipment...

    M3.5 security screws

I did have a look at RS but could only find 12mm long threads - bound to be too short for some backboxes.

    M3.5 security screws

Having to blank off several socket outlets in rented property. To discourage tenants from opening up and reconnecting sockets I want to use security screws to fix the blanking plates. Any ideas where I can get some security type M3.5 accessory screws?

Fire resistant clips and singles in trunking

That depends on what the job calls for. Agreed - in an ideal world steel is best but it costs an awful lot more in materials and time taken to install. Some jobs just don't warrant it.

Fire resistant clips and singles in trunking

In a word - No. Assuming I do and they say they are not suitable in this situation, can you suggest an alternative method of complying other than modifying the bare clips as I have done?

Fire resistant clips and singles in trunking

Current job involves running singles in plastic trunking and conduit. Am fitting fire resistant clips over escape routes but am not too happy using these clips over the singles without any kind of protection against chaffing/cutting into the 'single' insulation. I have been wrapping the metal...

Safety electrical connection label on Earth Rod

About to put in a 5/8" rod, unsure how best to label it up. Cannot take a BS951 label off a clamp as no way to fix it - large screw on rod clamp is too big.Wholesaler gave me a label with small fixing hole and a cable-tie - surely this is not good enough? How do you guys (properly) affix a...

    2-way enclosure

Have recently had to specify/supply a two way enclosure a couple of times in order to house an RCD or an mcb. Each time they have been cheap (£2 or £3) but have at the same time been incredibly flimsy and hard work to get sitting right and looking the part. Can anyone recommend a brand of...

    CPC - Neutral Fault

Rcbo's can give spurious results N-E. Disconnect the neutrals from the rcbo's and I expect you will see the fault clear.

    Voltimum Q&A section

I can't fathom out why this answer has been given on Volitmum Q&As Q & A of the Day – What fused connection units to use for these fan-heaters? - Voltimum UK - Electrical Installation Products and Contracting I would have thought that as long as he uses 4mm cable, and the cable fits into the...

How are cables routed through concrete ceiling/floor?

Have been asked to advise on possible re-use or rewire of cables in commercial premises. There are three stories and customer is interested in middle floor. These have concrete floors and ceilings. I can see cables for lighting points coming directly out of the ceiling. How would they have been...

Mount castle silent door bell GOD WHAT A DAY!!!!!

Pushing a doorbell will make a contact within the doorbell switch. Take your finger off the pushbutton and that contact is broken. I suspect that the Mountcastle detects this and then makes the lights flicker on and off. If the pushbutton sticks on then the contact is not broken when you take...
