Just taken delivery of the (finally published) CoP from the IET. I ordered it in September so it has been some time coming. Nice bit of bedtime reading for me

    Brick repairs

Ah, well if you've got conduit running through the brick then it might be a bit difficult to remove it without taking the whole job apart. Do you have a photo of the damaged brick?

    Brick repairs

Not sure what you mean by laminated. If damage is only on the surface and not right through the brick, perhaps you can remove the brick and refit it the other way round, with the good inside facing out? Or remove a good brick from the other side of the house to replace it - she might not...

Where to source IEC power leads?

Can anyone recommend where to bulk buy (25+) IEC leads? And what kind of price to expect to have to pay? This is for replacement leads to offer customers if/when their computer power leads fail PAT tests.

    Give me strength

I wonder what prompted the insurance company to write such a letter? Not saying I disagree with it, in fact quite the opposite, but am surprised to hear of it.

That may be so, but IMO those white cable reels look really naff.

    Thermal insulation in cable calculations

I think you mean 523.9 Tel :D I have been getting confused because 523.9 and table 52.2 specifically refer to the length of cable in the insulation, yet table 4D5 gives CCC for Ref Method 100 (covered by thermal insulation not exceeding 100mm in thickness) values as being almost exactly 0.78...

    Thermal insulation in cable calculations

When doing cable calcs, particularly the Ci for thermal insulation when calculating It, does the amount of thermal insulation refer to the length of cable that is covered by (any thickness of) insulation, or does it refer to the thickness of the insulation that is applied over (any part of the...

    Wander Lead

Out of interest, what is the best gauge tri-rated to use for a wander lead? I guess too small (0.75mm) would be too fiddly to work with unreeling/reeling, or is that not the case? Perhaps 1.5mm is the best compromise?

    Zs or (r1+r2) + Ze?

Not quite, Jase, because your measurements haven't taken account of the effect that earth bonding has on reducing the resistance of the circuit(s) to earth. Calculated values (yes, even if you measure Ze and measure R1+R2 you are still calculating because you are adding them together) will...

    Zs or (r1+r2) + Ze?

That depends on how well he remade the connections after doing his R1+R2

12V Bell supply & mains relay in one enclosure: Does it comply?

I realise this is your own property and not a commercial premises, but you really should not have wooden doors and door frames enclosing distribution boards and control panels. Big fire risk. I hope you have a robust smoke detection system in place. Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk

Getting stuck on lighting design for kitchen

Thanks for that Paul, but I'm not sure they'll go for the central 'box' on that particular one. Have not come across G53s before so will look into them some more. However, I think the customer will want all LEDs for the 'green' aspect.

Getting stuck on lighting design for kitchen

Have been given (months ago) a job to redo lighting in a kitchen. There is practically no ambient light because an extension left just one small window of direct light. Current lighting is GU10 track lights, which keep blowing. I want to fit LED downlights but am absolutely overwhelmed with the...

    frequency of PAT

Note that the COP give periods for INITIAL frequency. It is up to the competent person doing the testing to recommend a suitable period before the next test. Must admit, I tend to do blanket annual period. The very first job I did, I applied the COP periods, and then next year it was a nightmare...
