No RCD protection for socket outlets rated 32A or greater

It's all to do with reg 411.3.x which is about as clear as mud. It's one of those regulations that gives specific guidance for a particular application (sockets less than 32A) without being clear about how to go about installing anything other than that. Suggest you try posing your query in the...

No RCD protection for socket outlets rated 32A or greater

That was my thinking too. And isn't the disconnection time for such sockets 5 seconds rather than 0.4 seconds? Does not answer the original question, but probably has some relevance.

    L.E.D Lamps Staying on

I am far from being an expert , but are there not two types of LED lights, being constant current (240V supply) and constant voltage (12V supply)? The additional resistor across the terminals would only work for one type and not the other. I stand to be corrected if misunderstanding.

Wild and Woolly 2011 motorbike scramble - Boxing Day - Northants

Living in Northampton, we regularly go to the Boxing Day scramble called the Wild and Woolly - it has been a fixture since 1925 which makes it the longest running regular event in motorbike scrambling. It is apparently quite famous and is very popular. Well, if you have been before, or intend to...

    BT Internet Email

Think you want imap rather than pop - it's a way of sharing emails across devices rather then pop which I think extracts the email from the main email 'repository' - in other words it can only exist on one device - or something like that. Imap is more like synchronising different devices so they...

    Testing of rccb's

ok - I was thinking it was some kind of wind-up and misread the name as an 'anagram'. Thought I was reading it backwards but was reading it part backwards, part forwards, part backwards. Thought it said u-penis-mav when read backwards. My mistake. But it was a pretty inane question by the OP.

    TT system and Zs results

I don't understand (the bit highlighted above). Are you saying that on each and every circuit you measured a max Zs of 115ohms? Or is 115ohms the Ze of the installation?

Can someone work this out for me

rudeboy, you are doing level 3 2330, right? If so then a calc like this should be a walk in the park for you. You will have done many such a calculation in level 2 let alone level 3. With respect mate, give it a try yourself. If you get stuck then post you calculations and we will look them over...

New kitchen electrics issue - was i ripped off on this job?

To the OP, I hope you haven't been put off using the forum because of all the banter on this thread. My offer still stands - give me a call and I'll come and give you my opinion of the work done. Sent my details to you in a PM - if you can't access the PM then post a reply here.

    TN-S inadequate earthing conductor

Hey, Spin, he quoted 0.12ohms, which would be theoretical PEFC of 1.9kA, giving disconnect time of well under 0.1s

    Using timers with discharge lighting

Why is it most timers state that they are not suitable for use with discharge lighting? I understand that discharge lighting (e.g. SON lamps) are an inductive load, but what will happen to the timer is used to control such a load? Will the timer just cease to function? Or is it a potentially...

    Fluke T140 voltage tester

I think it is crazy that Fluke would not give you the new shrouds FOC. I use a Di-Log voltage detector and when my shrouds split, I emailed them and they just sent some out FOC by first class post. What excellent customer service that was! Just goes to show how disconnected these larger...

End to end testing on cpcs ring circuit.

If there are two parallel paths (bonding to the aga and also to something else on the ring) then the cpc will effectively have an interconnection. You will therefore potentially have widely different readings at different points on the ring. Draw it out.

    TN-S inadequate earthing conductor

How will you know you have not induced faults into the installation with the work you are proposing to do? Why are you even considering doing work on this when you do not have a tester? Surely the first step is to take measurements of the existing installation. If you do work on this (or any...

    C/U change with housing Association

In your original tests, did you test cpc continuity on the rfc from end to end, or just to the earth bar? Or did you not actually check this particular item? Have a think about how, in T&E cable, the cpc could break but not the L or N, midway along a cable. Unless cable was damaged by piercing...
