s, the Metrel testers do not have separate sockets for each lead ... L-L, N-N and CPC-CPC. They have a single 4-pin plug and shrouded socket. This ensures that you cannot connect test leads 'incorrectly' but also means that you have no choice but to do as I detailed above. You cannot plug...
Swapping ends, almost then ... my mum was born in Redruth hospital and I in Treliske; Camborne man myself though my Grandparents used to live in Park Road and latterly Trefusis Terrace.
I do not think that you are supposed to make the inference that you allude to ... I suspect that the final wording of the regulation bears only superficial comparison to the original text. Therefore the first paragraph that you quote is out of step with the original intent behind the regulation.
Sadly, I fear that as money talks ... though I have not read the whole of the debate ... it is unlikely to make much difference; in the same way that the state of the electrical industry, particularly the domestic sector, has been much lamented on here.
Personally, I am highly sceptical of any 'cold call' agent ... it is highly unlikely that the organisation that they serve has your best interests at heart; particularly if the organisation is not 'local'!
Not everything designed or made in the last 25 - 50 - 100 years is really an advance on what went before. At least a fault in your current Fuse box should not leave a molten heap of plastic on the floor or result in a fire in your home. Workmanship, materials and build quality have suffered...
I have PMd Marvo ... not sure when he will be back online ... look out for the Mods, any with a green dot next to their tag are online. Click on their name and send them a PM to ask to be given access to the DIY section!
He was on moments ago ... I have looked for some of the other Mods but to no avail ... they can be like busses none for hours and then 3 come along all at once!
I humbly suggest that you contact one of the moderators for access to the DIY section of the Forum ... Marvo is one of the moderators who was on a little while ago ... PM him or I can on your behalf if you like!
TD, answering your question is an incredibly difficult balancing act! More information is required ... but I hope that you have picked up by now the fact that you appear to anyone with some training in the 'field', of electrical installation, to be insufficiently equipped to be doing what you...
d, thanks for the correction ... I had a feeling that it was only ever used by us, the great unwashed ... or uninitiated in the arcane world of electrical distribution and installations. Unfortunately I had not known for sure!

TD, what have you based your proposal for the rating of your Over Current Protective Devices (OCPDs) upon? How do you propose to place 3 separate RCDs, 1 for each OCPD in a standard consumer unit? In order to define the rating for your OCPDs, you need to be able to understand and apply...
TD, I am sorry that I did not read the last line of your post which leaves me more concerned than when I first read it. My earlier questions stand. Are you coming at this from the perspective of an 'enthusiastic amateur' perhaps more akin to DIY? Alternatively, do you have the relevant...
Ahh, but L, you forgot the climate controlled chamber to ensure a consistent test environment for the testing of the tester as specified by E54 ... where are those experts when you need them!
More expense ... !
