UK Mechanical plug in timer with electric water cylinder on economy 7?

I came across a small electric hot water heater under the sink with a moulded plug in my friend's rented flat. He's on economy 7, and wishes to use a mechanical plug in timer to ensure the water is only heated on night rate. The flat is rented so changing the socket to an FCU is out of the...

Maximum load for shaver socket in bathroom?

Hi, what's the maximum load I can run from a shaver socket in a bathroom? Can I run speakers in the bathroom from this point? If that load is maximum, can I put extension cable into the bathroom and how long does it need to be away from the shower?

Running coaxial cable from the loft to lounge

No airing cupboard, It's a combi boiler. Most of the existing electrical bits are plastered over, but is it possible to run cable down the stairs under the floorboard? Yeah, but that's enlarged now! I don't remember being fully sober when asking that question either...

    GRR, rewirable plugs...

How come those stupid re-wirable plugs are SO hard to rewire? The wires are never the right length, and one always never fits or the strangs come untwisted... What tricks do you have for using re-wirable plugs, or making them easier to rewire?

    Gaining loft access

Daisy chaining extension cables? Current leaking to earth?

If the DNO fuse counts, then yes. I'm more concerned about having the RCD trip or whatever, than overloading the 10A fuse in the socket. The cable near the plug has been shortened for anyone who is concerned, so it's not looped anymore :D

Daisy chaining extension cables? Current leaking to earth?

I would love to have more sockets, though it's rented accommodation and they don't see the point in extra sockets. One double socket in each room in a awkward location. Also the CU is padlocked, and they charge to come out and reset things...

Daisy chaining extension cables? Current leaking to earth?

I think I have a power distribution unit right now, when i got it there was an IEC power connector on it. I'm more concerned with how much I can plug in without the RCD tripping, is there an easy way to measure the earth leakage with a multimeter? Pictures...

Daisy chaining extension cables? Current leaking to earth?

Nope... The largest I can find is a 10 way, and even that's expensive. "Interruption of Service" fines... Power Distribution Unit? I thought they were just bigger and more expensive extension cables...

Daisy chaining extension cables? Current leaking to earth?

Hi, I only have one socket to work with and adding others is not an option. Can I safely use an 1 socket 10 meter extension lead, with a 8 socket extension on the end? On the 8 socket extension i have a 6 socket extension lead (with another 1 socket extension) and and a 4 socket extension load...

Replacing G5.3 halagon lights with LED

Getting into the ceiling would be very hard, I'm not on the best of terms with the people above. I've heard that a driver is not needed if it's an old type laminated transformer?

Replacing G5.3 halagon lights with LED

I have a kitchen with 8 50w halagon bulbs, and would like to replace them with LED's. The transformer in the ceiling is laminated, not one of the modern ones. What type of LED bulbs do I need, and is there anything else that needs installing in the ceiling like some sort of driver? :/
