    Complete Home Repairs - Beware

Just received an unsolicited email from this company looking for contractors in my area i.e. GU postcode. Aberdeen based company touting maintenance work for 27 properties a month. This fits exactly with the MO used by previous Scottish based operator who has caused issues for other members of...

DISTANCE from D/G socket to max reach of pull out kitchen tap ?

Go with measurement from edge of sink and don't worry about pull out tap. My kitchen is a bit dodgy as the sockets are vulnerable to water ingress if the roof blows off and also my 30 m garden hose could easily reach them! ?

    TT to PME conversion

SSE are really good. I've had them swap to PME a few times with no charge. I think all they do is quick Ze check to see if suitable. You have to make sure bonding is upgraded to 10mm which could add to the work.

Poor IR results on electric UFH... options?

Does the UF heating actually work? Do you have manufacturers details as they should give an idea of the resistance for the element. Surely if you are IR testing the RFC that should be done with the UFH mat disconnected otherwise you will get a low IR. I’ll bow to those with more experience but...

What size cable would you use????

As above but surely you should be basing this on the load you want to cater for in the out building and then undertake the appropriate cable calcs taking into account distance and volt drop? Is it just that you have a spare 40amp MCB?

UK Wasting electricity with electric cars?

Agree, along with horse boxes. If people like horses so much why don't they ride them across fields rather than putting them in tin boxes and driving on roads really slowly!

UK Anyone use a dual sim phone?

Must admit the only dual sim phone I’ve come across was being used by a dating fraudster I nicked. He had about 8 other throw away phones on him too. This was about 6 or 7 years ago though. ?

what are some tools that were worth the price tag?

That’s the think I like about them. If you’re working in a risky area I think you have a bit more control than just ripping through with a saw that could be set at the wrong depth.

what are some tools that were worth the price tag?

Everything! Cutting out plasterboard and ply for back boxes. Also use masonary blades for smaller jobs in plaster or softer block work. Cutting floorboards.

    Problem light fittings

Earthing issues aside. If everything is the same it will either be a bad reconnection in the connector block or an actual fault with the light itself ie the bulb has gone. Other than that you can spend time on acquainting yourself with the delights and variations of two way switching on domestic...

what are some tools that were worth the price tag?

Would love to know why the battery packs for cordless kit are so expensive? I think a good multi-tool is essential even if your not a spark.
