    LED Lighting fault

Sounds silly but they are using drivers and not Lv transformers. I see a sparks wiring LEDs with transformers and not drivers. He didn't realise that transformers put out AC and drivers DC. This will eventually knacker the LEDs.

    genuine question

The voltage at each of the birds feet is the same sitting on hv cables. Voltage is the energy that 'pushes' current or as some one once said to me, the pressure. If there is no potential difference (voltage) between the birds legs then there is no way that current will flow. There is no pressure...

    gas earth bond

I presume you mean from the EDF's glow pen? If so this is probably being induced from other circuits and because its not connected to earth (0v) it cant discharge.

    gas earth bond

That's probably because the exposed conductive part isn't connected to earth either. Therefore neither are at 0v

    few questions re rewires

Just out of interest, and I don't mean to hijack this thread, but how do these grid switches for appliances comply with the 2m isolation rule? I realise that there would be a socket nearer the appliance but if this is not accessible, then these switches could easily by more than 2m away from the...

    gas earth bond

because earth has 0v, and anything connected to it would also be a 0v. Therefore to answer your other later point, even an induced voltage, once connected to earth would be 0v! if you disconnected it and tested to a known earth you would then see a potential difference. if you connect it back up...

what if the fault is right at the consumer unit on the lighting circuit or sockets? the PFC would be very large and the MCB wouldn't trip.

    Occasional rcd tripping with microwave.

Agreed. Unplug absolutely everything and carry out a 500v IR test on across all the cores. if this is fine then it must be the RCD or the Appliance.
