    Obsolete Timeguard PIR

This is only thinking outloud, but would PIRs intended for alarm/security systems be compatible?

What do you make about this drone at gatwick airport

I reckon this is a little more than a bunch of kids mucking about, makes you wonder what would happen if all airports were targeted simultaneously...no 'safe' place to divert, just take on the drones, or crash anyway when the gas runs out...scary stuff.

Help with oven and microwave supply

Both are 16a though, so single socket or fcu not adequate for microwave or more likely combi oven. I'm sticking to my plan on other thread for these scenarios. Existing 6mm to 2way din enc, 2 b16 breakers within, feeding 20a dp switches and flex outlets, positioned as and where I need them, all...

    6mm 32A radial to supply 2 3.65kw 16a ovens

These particular ovens come with a plug in flex, plug is on oven end, like a kettle plug, but slightly different and clicks into place, pretty sure its 3 core 1.5mm2 Instructions call for 16a supply, but dont really say if this is the min rating required, or max allowed breaker size. For the...

    6mm 32A radial to supply 2 3.65kw 16a ovens

Cheers, I considered that option, used them before when going from the old cooker to built in oven plus hob scenario. In this case, appliances are Neff, and I know from experience that supplied leads will be to short to both get to one outlet. So that means I will require 2 separate outlets...

    6mm 32A radial to supply 2 3.65kw 16a ovens

Hi, Doing wiring for a kitchen co. Done plenty of these recently, but we've been doing all wiring from scratch and have just run 16a radials direct from board. In this instance it's a ballache to run back to board, and I've got a perfectly decent 6mm cable from board to oven location. I'm...

    another wet pants strikes again.

So many faults it's not amusing! The balanced cold outlet has been Tee'd into the incoming main and the expansion vessel, which could lead to mains over pressurising the cylinder as the prv is effectively by passed, expansion vessel potentially rendered useless as mains pressure can act on it...

    2 spurs from a Junction Box....worried?

I was actually suggesting that if you have a brain and use it wisely you could save yourself the cost of a jb and 4" of t&e and still comply. Or stop thinking and just slavishly follow the picture.

    2 spurs from a Junction Box....worried?

There is none, and what has been done is fine, if slightly unorthodox. Lots on here quoting appendix 15 as having some god like status, but it's only a guide, hence uses terms such as 'this can generally be achieved by' I.e. follow this and you don't have to think, all will be well. Think...

    2 spurs from a Junction Box....worried?

This is almost as good as getting a phone call from a spark who was spitting feathers about the fact that I'd put a 2.5mm radial on a 32a mcb and made it '2 circuits' when all I'd done is take a spur from the MCB! Think about the Physics for a second...would a 2nd jb and a few inches of cable...

    5 core flex to combi

Turns out the whole thing was bollo! He was reading stat manual stating capable of volt free, but missed the bit about 230v being fine, so wired using ls and lr as usual and all is well! Still love the term 'water clown' though!

    5 core flex to combi

Ha! Bonding will be the next issue...gas being run external to new location, no bonding at present, my plan to bond at new entry point so same chasing region as flex...let's see if he wants it at the meter at the other side of the house!

    5 core flex to combi

Interesting....I haven't seen it yet....but that is the spec I was told...Will get details tomorrow on model and mi and get to the bottom of it. I suspect plumber has got wrong end of stick, all I know so far is that it is an older model that is being relocated.

    5 core flex to combi

Cheers, This is a Worcester. Will get him to check mi tomorrow and see if this is what he's on about...annoying if I need to run in a second flex though!

    5 core flex to combi

Need to wire a supply to combi with LNE connections, and 2 volt free cores for room stat. I don't really see why I can't use 5 core flex for this, as all cores insulated to 500v, but plumber insisting they need to be in separate flexes...any thoughts? Cheers

The IET - protecting us or their profits

As Standards go, bs7671 is pretty good value! In a previous life I had to refer to various SAE standards, and often for your 60quid or so you'd only get 4 or 6 pages!

Main Frustrations for an Electrician on Site

Coming back to 2nd fix a kitchen only to discover that the entire layout and spec got changed between 1st fix and the kitchen being fitted!

odd one seen today, three FCUs each for a 3KW immersion on one 6mm radial

I'd be very surprised if bs1363 doesn't take into account permitted variations in the supply voltage. That said, I always put immersions on a 16A breaker and a DP switch. For some reason I tend to wire the circuit in 2.5 as well, even though I keep telling myself 1.5 would be fine!

    Toughest screwdriver bits

I dropped 40quid on a fancy set of wiha bits. They've been less prone to shattering in the impact gun, but still wear out faster than I hoped. Sticking with the cheap tic tac boxes of dewalt or bosch now and just treat them as disposable.
