    Unidentifed Cables from Main Supply

It's a bit strange. Presumably if you kill the main switch on the new cu everything in the house is isolated?

Whats on the other side of the wall?

Why did the Ra go from 180Ω to 14Ω?

Your rods might have a nice short route back to new dno rods, soil might be wetter than it was last time, or possibly nextdoor converted to pme, but old tt rod nextdoor still connected or bonded water mains close together giving a better path back. Loads of possibilities.

Eicr London advert for works even says cash

Just a landlord trying it on isn't it? You don't 'recruit' an electrician for 1 job!

I do this every day! As I imagine pretty much everybody here with a credit account does!

    Cloakroom Extractor Fan

Building regs don't specify extraction for a wc alone, so I'd suggest that you can do what you like. If you want it to be effective then try to use rigid ducting rather than flexi as it results in lower losses since it's smooth.

    Telephone wiring connection help, please!

Yep, pretty sure the blue and the blue/white deal with the signal, and orange was just the bell line, generated by the master socket, hence just 2 wires at master and 3 at extensions.

Earth bond to external oil boiler....

Think it's normally 1m, but don't quote me on that. At the end of the day it's down to the MI's for each boiler. To an extent, you don't care. If water clown has used plastic then no bond, if it's metallic then bond it.

Earth bond to external oil boiler....

The oil pipe won't if it doesn't enter the building. The ch primaries are likely to need bonding where they enter the building if they are metallic.

Aye or Naw? Trimming RCBO Leads

I got a tray of non insulated ferrules. Use them on all flex connections, especially handy when doing ch wiring centres. Pretty sure time taken to put ferrule on is countered by much quicker termination. Biggest fly lead I've encountered on rcbo so far is 4mm, but only had a need to fit rcbos...

Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

So one simple line turns into an essay! Imagine that throughout the regs! It would end up being 800notes at that rate! If the regs end up too prescriptive then it produces more problems than it solves. If for no other reason, than there is always more than one way to skin a cat! In the eyes of...

pay your invoice or watch your windows

There is nothing wrong or threatening about putting payment terms on invoices, in fact my book keeper insists that I do it. Perfectly standard to raise an invoice with a simple statement of 'terms: upon receipt' unless of course terms already determined through contract negotiations.

Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

To be honest I think the reg is a half reasonable attempt to solve the relatively simple issue of dealing with surface mounted wiring, which could possibly have been secured with nothing more than the double sided tape on the back of the trunking, prior to this. On the other hand I take issue...

    Accessory screw covers

Who actually fits them in the first place? I love Click Mode gear but never fit the covers!

    What would you do here.

Do cgd do a double fuse version of their switchfuse assembly? Wondering if you could have a single enclosure with 1 main switch and then 2 fuse holders supplying each submain? Like the 63A breaker approach, but retaining discrimination.

No L-L end to end on ring main

Complete Arse! If you want practice at testing then do it at home or your mates house! EICR got Jack to do with the formalities of test procedures, which should be 2nd nature if you're doing them. EICR all about observation and judgement, founded on underpinning knowledge.

PE from metal back box to socket

Why are folks getting so excited about adding the flylead if its a metal accessory? I can kind of understand if you mean when replacing a plastic light switch for metal, and cpcs were already terminated in back box, easier just to add fly lead, but in every other instance I'd always prefer to...

Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

Out of interest what are folks using for smaller sizes of swa that might be clipped direct above doorways or along corridors?

Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

The wording of the regs is 'to prevent premature collapse' Typically vague! My view is that this reg is only aimed at surface mounted wiring, and that wiring enclosed by other building elements such as plasterboard are not affected by this. Seems to be the way that the amd3 rule for escape...

Consumer unit with lots of 20mm knockouts

I seem to recall mk boards having plenty of knockouts, but I just don't like them so have moved over to Hager. Their square knockouts can be a pain or can be a godsend depending on the situation, but plain boards are readily available. Qmax hole punches make nice accurate holes as well
