Am I being over picky or is this just rough?

Got a call from a mate today. All power out. Seems cutout fuse blown, they just had a new hot tub put in. Opened meter box to find this. I think it's complete arse on many levels, but DNO chap came out and replaced fuse without any whinging. I was quite surprised, but I guess it's a Sunday!

TT in agriculture/ building site/ caravan.

As it stands there is no suppliers earth terminal. So TT it is.

Lets see how good this forum is ?

What's the type of RCD? Is this a case that all this talk of needing type A or B rather than AC is having a practical impact?

    Why would this be done?

Been to look at a job today. Pretty straightforward until I got to utility cupboard. Supply is single phase 100A domestic service, 2pole switchfuse in meter box, SWA submain to cupboard. Just tried to upload pic but too big. Bottom line is SWA terminated into metal box. Standard single phase...

Mounting Socket upside down - is it OK?

Indeed....but how do you propose to put the plug 'the right way up' into a socket 'the wrong way up'...? Think 4 way reel not on it's side... Back to OP, if it's home office then likely lots of small loads and the very reason trailling 4 or 6 ways were invented! Forget upside down sockets and...

Another Nagy production covers controversy subject

I spoke to my scheme about this. Their policy was straightforward. You sign the paperwork, you take ownership in whole. Therefore 3rd party doesn't come into it. But the onus is on you the contractor to satisfy yourself that all is well before taking on that responsibility. As had been mentioned...

    Am I liable to pay

A mate of mine came home to find the toaster smouldering outside the back door. Apparently his housemate had lost his lighter and was trying the old paper on the element trick to get a light! Things escalated rapidly and the flaming toaster was chucked out the door!

Another Nagy production covers controversy subject

I've had this scenario a couple of times. 1st time I think I posted the q on here, but 1st fix was done, place boarded out and plastered. Wires in wrong places, all seemed sketchy. On that occasion said EICR is all I'd sign. They found another who would provide EIC and notify. A more recent job...

If you didn’t have shears how would ?

That's even worse!! I own a multitool, bit it's one of those bits of kit that are definitely in the 'emergency, nothing else can do it' category! Very very useful, occasionly! I hate the racket so much I try not to use it! Been on jobs where they don't stop all day, sends me nuts!

If you didn’t have shears how would ?

Other than the horrendous noise, what's the problem with using a jigsaw on trunking? Tool for the job in many circumstances?

Mounting Socket upside down - is it OK?

So what do we all do about our 4 outlet extension reels? Make sure it's exactly oriented so outlets are 'side by side'? Or do they just get kicked over so crap falls in the sockets, and invariably only 3 of the 4 ever work!! I'm more surprised that if the space is that tight, that inverting the...

    255V measured instead of 240V

Because they don't like paying for your expensive electricity! Or maybe it's summer and load on network is lower than average so voltage has risen slightly as a consequence.

    Trade pics for your enjoyment.

Before and after, and yes, I know a couple of the conduits down to light switch and socket aren't plumb, but I used the old PVC trunk as a template....won't do that again, winds me up everytime I look at it!

    Spit gun on prefab garage

Thanks...confirms what I was worried about! Time for a few tubes of Hi-Tack! Presumably there aren't any 18th Ed metal fixing concerns since its just a single garage? Did a shed in PVC conduit the other week and am fairly sure the shed would have collapsed well before any firemen arrived so...

    Spit gun on prefab garage

Yes cheers, confirmed my fears...had problems before just drilling for plugs hence wondering about the nailer. Trouble is that you can't really do a 'test'....if it goes wrong you're goosed!

    Spit gun on prefab garage

Got prefab garage to first fix, debating whether or not to use the spit gun to fix to the concrete or just stick to plugs and screws. Always used the nailer on much more substantial lumps of concrete, worried about shattering parts of the panels off. Anyone successfully used the nailer on one of...

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

I think that is probably the worst effort I've ever seen!! In the age of youtube I can't understand how its possible to get it so incredibly wrong! If that work was paid for then this surely has to be one for Building Control to actually pursue and take action?
