    Earth Connection On Boat

Looking for some info here. Recently I was on my friends boat, which has a 240 supply , through an inverter which you can run a micro wave , hair dryer etc, preferably of course if the engine is running. It got me thinking, how do they achieve a path to earth on such systems? What prevents ...

    Earth Loop / Dimmer

Thanks folks. My confusion is, if I test without the switch and get 1.8 , but when switch is fitted it's nearer 50, what is the true reading ? When the switch is fitted , is the true ELI 50 ohms or is that just a misleading result .? I hope I'm making sense here. Thanks again, much appreciated.

    Earth Loop / Dimmer

Had a strange one today, would appreciate folks take on it. I'm probably missing something obvious!! Installing some downlights via metal dimmer switch. Earth loop impedance was 50 ohms at last light!, at switch it was about 1.5 ohms. Dimmer fully up, voltage at light around 230 . Bypass...

    Single Circuit testing

Is this not just a case of testing and certificating what you are asked to do? i may be missing something, I usually do, but if someone asks me to test and give the results of a certain amount of circuits then that is what I do and give the results of what I have tested. Obviously, if the supply...

Adding spotlights in bathroom (no RCD) options

Surely buying an rcd outlet and then fitting it , can't be much less than even supplying a rcd unit , fed surface from and local to existing DB. Check bonding and your covered. This is where supplying certificates actually covers you.

Brexit and the 18th Edition Regulations

Whenever I am in Spain or Greece and I cast my eye over their electrics , I always come to the conclusion that it's only us, who actually carry out things to eu standard!!:rolleyes4:

    Metal consumer units

I think you will be fine. Double check your connections and make sure it's all nicely sealed up. There are hundreds and thousands of plastic cu out there. 99% are good for 30 years. We all install metal now , but we all still live in the real world surely.

I simply don't trust them. Do you respect and trust Boris?

EU Brexit - How will you vote given the latest "news"

Daily mail???!! What are you going on about. Dont jump to conclusions now, I'm not all for mass immigration. I think we all know the main problem but not allowed to say it. My gut instinct tells me to be very wary of what Boris and Farage are telling us.

EU Brexit - How will you vote given the latest "news"

It's not as a daft as you think. If we had nothing to do with Europe, the officials could easily turn a blind eye to who leaves their borders. Politicians don't want to admit it, but Britain needs immigrants. We have an ageing and dwindling population and if today's workforce are to get a...

EU Brexit - How will you vote given the latest "news"

You may be right, but history tells us, not to trust the French with their promises does it not? If getting out is solely on immigration I think we should stay. Thats my point. The financial and political side is over my , and most others I think , head

EU Brexit - How will you vote given the latest "news"

I'm stay in. Though I have positives and negatives ( good eh!!) on both sides of argument. I think if we we are out , the immigration could be worse. Britain just don't turn boats away from their border. Just now our border is in France, they would gladly send boats our way . but I know...

TNCS bonding for additions and alterations

Does this thread not just prove, that the scenario of bonding water/ gas etc is extremely ambiguous throughout the electrical industry ? I often come across the scenario where pipes are not bonded, and explain to the customer why I must carry this task out , and they always quite rightly, tell...

No main bonding seen but good continuity.

I come across pipes not bonded all the time. Plumbers and builders seem to take great pleasure in cutting away our earth wires. It's a never ending battle with me trying to explain to a customer I have to bond their main incomers while they tell me it's been fine for the 30 years they have...

Loft / Attic space running cables

I wasn't disputing that. I agree. Do you then think we are wasting our time and money running 10 and 16 mill cables to showers?

I don't think the zs would change. The ins resistance might though.

Loft / Attic space running cables

You've got to wonder about all the 6mm cable feeding showers which have now been covered in mountains of insulation. Some of it has been there for a long long time. Can't say I've had an issue with it to be fair during testing.
