RCD (sometimes) trips on switching OFF an ELO

I was thinking along the same lines Claire_r . Could be a sticky relay or thermostat. You did say it has been in storage.

What do I need to replace this - photos

Think I might have noticed something that no one else has. Is the enclosure plastic? If so, there appears to be NO means of main earth. These needs checking by a qualified sparky!

    13 A fused spur powering a boiler

Could be a faulty switch contact in the Fused spur, I've had it with a brand new socket once. You need to disconnect the New Fused spur and do a continuity test between the supply or feed terminals and the Load or Out terminals. Really you should be doing End to End tests on the ring circuit...

    rcd not tripping

Sounds like you have a fault on an appliance. You say it trips with an Earth rod connected when you turn on an appliance.

Voltage down switch wire, switch off. Help!

Might be useful to check if a smoke alarm has been wired to the switch live. This makes an incandescent bulb glow when the switch is turned off and might be the source of your 10V.

    dual sat faceplates

Might be because it's difficult to keep the screen isolated with a metal face plate.

    Extractor fan in t+e

rich, If you don't pulse the S/L then I imagine it won't check if the room is humid, otherwise what's the point of having a S/L terminal.

    heights of sockets and switches

Thought some measurements might be useful. Basically the rule in domestic premises is anywhere between 450mm and upto 1200mm from finished floor level. As far as I know there is no specific requirement in commercial premises, but be aware that there maybe disabled users who need to reach...

    Condesation in the van

Could put a solar panel on the roof with it'sown battery, a 12v Extractor fan with a metal outlet grill riveted onto roof/side panel. That way you get to run your fan without flattening ur main battery and if sum bugger thinks they'll rip your vent out to knick your van they'll have to drill the...

    Tell us about your faults!

Re: Tell us about your faults ! Did a board change yesterday and the customer said the cooker switch is a bit wobbly. Took the face plate off because the polarity was wrong anyway and found out why it wobbled! Take a look Q¿Q

    rcd as main switch

Steamboat, I've never had a problem with flyleads on RCBOs, usuallt there's too much flylead, but if it's 4/5 circuits it may have to be a 10 Way Enclosure anyway. Loads a room!

    voltage operated elcb, nuisance tripping

A Short term solution is to replace with a 100ma RCD (£18.33 Inc VAT from TLC Direct) and a 2 Module Enclosure (£4.69 Inc VAT from TLC Direct) and advise that a board change is required. That way you've left it no less safe than it was. But usually where there's a ELCB there's a wylex board, so...

    Downlights Tripping Breaker

My Dad just mentioned it could be something do do with a two way switch, switching the Live to neutral when you turn off the switch. That would explain the RCD not tripping, as there is no leakage, just a short circuit.

Screwfix do Builders gloves for a couple of quid and you can throw them away if they get too dirty. They fit tight enough to do fiddly stuff too.
