Earth wire on domestic heating oil tank - various questions

I wasn't meaning that the earth wire would earth a lightning strike, I meant that whoever put the earth rod in possibly mentioned to the OP that they needed to put an earth rod in as a method of earthing as TT systems tend to be used in areas where there is a high chance of lightning striking.

Earth wire on domestic heating oil tank - various questions

Just a thought, but has the oil pipe been used as an earth wire to the earth rod? And the earth rod is infact part of a TT earthing system? I would never do it that way but the OP did mention about lightning strikes?!

Very Tidy :-) I like that you've labelled your bonding, it's easy enough to do but a pain in the arse hunting for the other end of an unlabeled cable.

Some joints I found in our kitchen. I thought the junction box buried in plaster was bad but then found some lovely 'twist it on and bury it in plaster under the wallpaper' ones. Luckily they had been disconnected years ago. There was tape round the twisted joints at least. Also one of the boxes...

    TNCS Outbuilding earthing arrangement

Are you putting the neutral and earth probes on the earth connection together? I was taught at college to do it, but not all testers need it and the DC bias that is meant to 'hold' the RCD on, will trip it.

Isolation for under worktop appliances ?

Reg 537.2.1.2 states "Suitable means shall be provided to prevent any equipment from being inadvertently or unintentionally engergised" Page 154 in the Big Yellow Book ;-)or have a look at page 54 in the OSG. I think you'd struggle to argue that the circuit breaker or fuse in the consumer unit...

Aren't there plastic sleeves to cover the bottom if the terminal? It shouldn't have been energised if you can touch the terminal.

    Earthing sparking

The earth attatched to the frame of the building could have been there as an Earth Bond. I'd check that there is an Earth bond elsewhere for the frame of the building. Provided there is a bond elsewhere, I'd say the wire you've mentioned is redundant and could be removed.

flat down neutral to earth reading

Depending on your supply voltage, the resistance between a conductor and earth can go lower than 0.00 meg ohms before a 30ma fault current will flow and trip the RCD. At 230 volts it's 7.67 kohms :-)

    PIR's with LED's

Ive never wired PIRs in parallel, but if they are using a Triac to switch their load im guessing they wont like having a voltage fed into the output. Just a thought.

I know the original question was about bonding, but where is the RCD protection for the shower circuit?
