This might be a stupid question

Realistically a pain in the arse to confirm if extraneous if existing and if you have lots of fittings in it which are themselves earthed as they are exposed conductive parts so grid is likely already at earth potential from this. If it's new you can test it with a IR tester at 500v. If...

    MICC/PYRO advice please

Definitely, except they now lash in FP200 and make a hash of that instead! Haha

    MICC/PYRO advice please

Yeah, I've seen that too, sleeved and taped only....With a jubilee around the copper clad to clamp a cpc to!!.... Also seen many in control panels where multiple multi core pyro's brought in through same hole and then pots only fitted........There were some rough old boys out there too back in...

    Garage wiring

A multimeter would be fine too on the voltage setting.

    Garage wiring

As you've got 2 circuits and 1 is powering 1 light, even if 1mm csa, it will be less than 30% percent of its grouped rating and therefore can be disregarded for the other cables in the group, of which there is one, which is the socket circuit. I really don't think grouping will be an issue. As...

    EICR certificate

If it has no isolator from DNO and the origin of supply is split then the most comprehensive way would be to complete 2 seperate certs. It's no different to having a unrestricted and off peak supply at a house, some people do it on two certs and others just add a schedule of inspections and a...

    Enclosure used as earth

He knows he can use 35mm, he wants to know if he can use 16mm. It needs to be calculated.

    Enclosure used as earth

As you already recognise, as your line conductor is 70mm then 35 mm would automatically satisfy the protective conductor sizing requirement of Table 54.7 16mm may well be adequate but this will need to be confirmed by using the adiabatic equation. Will need some more info for this though. What...

    Testing with a CU change

Yeah, definitely. I typo'd too, meant table I1. If you take any of the mV/A/m values and ÷ 2.4 it will give you the values of (R1 + R2) / Metre in Table I1.

    Testing with a CU change

Agree, we can and do just that. I'm sure you meant the OSG Table L1 (R1+R2)/Metre Values as opposed to mV/A/m for the calculated value though

    Air conditioning unit

Hi Elliott RCD would not be a requirement of the unit and you can avoid the additional protection requirement by your install method. Type B is not recommended due to the inductive load of the compressor in condensor unit. They are almost all inverter driven now though so inrush is not...

    installation condemned by PAT tester

PAT tester should still have tested the appliances. The fixed installation is outside of his scope and he can only make an observation about it.

Optimum setup of 2 strings on Solis RHI hybrid inverter

Basically the Solis Inverter has Dual MPPT which means it can operate two strings completely independently (2 MPPT as Solis say). As yours are unbalanced it would be detrimental to parallel them together so therefore keep them independent.

IR Testing what is your take on it?

Limitation on your report. As the inspector you can limit whatever you agree with the client.

IR Testing what is your take on it?

I only ever do IR L-L and L-N on initial verification. It is too disruptive and unnecessary for an existing install. As far as testing periodically, For the breakdown to occur between those it would require 2 faults, which if there is a path between them, almost certainly there is a path to...

    Going back to employment....

At £25 an hour self employed, even if you worked 40 chargeable hours every week, deducted holiday, unpaid sick days, vehicle, other expenses you would not be at 40k. In reality with all the unpaid hours for surveys, quotes etc....even worse. If you got 35k employed you would be better off plus...
