UK Equipment excluded for insulation test

I don’t think there is a comprehensive list of equipment that should be considered to be “neutralised” before doing insulation testing. as a small starter: dimmer switches Pilot lights Equipment with capacitor RCD USB sockets Light bulbs Sensitive equipment ? really appreciate if the list...

How to run MC out of panel

There is advantage of bonding in that if the nice builder puts a sharp implement through the cable the outer stands a chance of completing the circuit!

How to run MC out of panel

I mentioned that I ran to a fused box near the CU and mine is metallic as recommended above. While I think it only needs to be bonded at one end it is obvious that better both ends as stated by norcal

    Outdoor garden lighting

I ran cable and enclosed it in flexible black conduit. This protects cable from squirrels and other pests and keeps out water. You need to ensure that any connection points fit. Another run was attached to a wooden fence arris rail and covered in plastic cable guards.

N/E fault RCD not tripping ??

The USB installation blurb differs between brands. I fitted a LAP usb socket and it states that you can do installation test at 500 V but others state that they must be disconnected. first thing mentioned on my insulation test is that dimmers should be disconnected for the test. Short circuit...

Need help adding light switch and outlet

I checked and one waste disposer insists that the switch is above the counter. so take the socket input from the circuit breaker and as you suggested replace one socket with a switch and wire it from the input . So there is a common input to both the socket and the new switch. you showed two...

Need help adding light switch and outlet

Or to guess another possible solution: Leave the current switch permanently on . Replace an existing socket with switch built in socket and the other with a fused spur to the socket under the counter.

Need help adding light switch and outlet

Just a query first . You wrote “light” at the top of the drawing. Are you saying that the power is coming from a lighting circuit or is this an output from the sockets? This potentially means that the amount of power available through the wiring may not be suitable for the equipment that you...

    Wireless Smoke & Heat Detectors

I’m always behind the curve. I have a 35 year old Ei smoke detector mains powered tested last week hardwired into my burglar alarm system. When a test failed a couple of years ago, I installed a battery powered Nest smoke and CO alarm in the downstairs hall. This doesn’t talk to the EI alarm...

RCD tripping on split board, strange one

As an aside, I had an RCD trip some times on a circuit with a freezer on it when I used a DIY tool or lawnmower in the RCD socket. The trip probably caused by earth leakage current from the freezer which is only operational when the freezer is actively cooling. I removed the RCD and used an...
