    Northern Power Grid Earth connection

I’ve never come across that. Wouldn’t help sticking a PME sticker on it if that is the case!

    Northern Power Grid Earth connection

I would assume that the neutral would’ve been identified on a new head. Would still say TN-S Could always verify by contacting DNO

    RCD tripping a mystery

Not the same place they do ‘happy endings’ after a dodgy massage? If so, where abouts is this place? My mate wants to know

To the new wannabe sparks -

Us southerners get told not to travel unless necessary, the northerners get told to get their fleeces, it’s a little nippy out!

To the new wannabe sparks -

I would love the winter off. It’s the ‘oh, is it cold out there?’ Kinda remarks that grind me. No love, I’m dressed like I’m about to go deep sea fishing off the coast of the North Pole for a laugh. The first time, just a polite gesture, the 10th, is annoying.

To the new wannabe sparks -

First job, check to see why a fountain is tripping, first guess the fact that the lake has iced up doesn’t help! Once deiced furiociously ( my apprentice actually said he’d p*ss on the lake to speed the process - politely declined ) We checked out the supply and had a dead short L-N-E, found...

    AM2 general questions

I did mine like 10 years ago, unsure what it’s like now however they were really hot on isolation procedures. Also got brownie points for bending the galv. In one piece without couplers. One domestic spark used three couplers, in places where I thought couplers couldn’t exist! Good luck and...

Cabling / wires at new build property for TV

My new build was like this when I bought it, however this was only in the living room where the TV point is and the broadband enters the house. Your chosen provider should stick a front plate on it. You have a lot of cables there though.. more than usual I would say!

    Lighting with key switch

From my experience it’s also got me in the client’s good books by wiring into the switch first and then into the key switch, so when the annual inspection/flick tests are done only the emergency lights are only affected. Otherwise the inspections will need to be done out of hours. Also if they...

Are LED floodlights all they’re cracked up to be , are they cost effective in the long long run ??

I have used Venture LED Corns. They are half decent and never let me down but they are big and they kick out a fair bit of heat! Venture 20W Retrofit LED Corn Lamp ES 6000K Daylight - http://www.ledlightbulbs.co.uk/Venture-20W-Retrofit-LED-Corn-Lamp-ES-6000K-Daylight

Are LED floodlights all they’re cracked up to be , are they cost effective in the long long run ??

I agree but remember an old Metal halide would set you back a few hundred. But also a lamp would be say £20 I guess. If you have 500W Fittings and swap them out for 100W LED that’s a fair saving for over 30 lights. I guess you could start fitting LED corn lamps to replace SON and Halide. Done...

Are LED floodlights all they’re cracked up to be , are they cost effective in the long long run ??

Loxa are sealed and pre flexed. I don’t think you can replace any parts on them. I put some in about 3 years ago at a local college. Still going strong. Thing is, they are out living the life of a lamp. So by the time they fail you’d have to arrange access equipment anyway to re lamp. Not much...

Are LED floodlights all they’re cracked up to be , are they cost effective in the long long run ??

I seem to use a lot of Loxa LED floods, they seem decent and never let me down yet.

Starrett KA19-N Oops Arbor - Two hole saws on one arbour

Drilling 25mm holes and the 20mm knockout comes out of a box and you have to put like a reel of tape around a 20mm wholesaw to fit snuggly in a 25mm wholesaw! Those were the days. Too poor to buy cone cutters!

What can I expect to earn once I'm qualified?

To be fair I worked for a firm for 3 months on the cards, he was paying newly qualified sparks £10 an hour until they ‘proved themselves’ Didn’t want to work for someone like that for too long so did the job and then jacked! Down to the individual I guess. You know what you’re worth. The...
