    A couple of testing questions

not sure what you mean Trev..which test will it get rid of? My understanding of the procedure would be to take a Ze reading at cu2 and test circuits as normal, just the same as cu1. But record a separate set of test results just for the armoured link itself, is this correct?

    A couple of testing questions

I used a 16mm SWA..which snakes it's way through the cellar up through 3 rooms then across the attic and back down to another loft area. Would a Ze test at db2 be sufficient or will I need insulation resistance, continuity etc

    A couple of testing questions

Evening all I am in the process of re-wiring a 4 storey property and have 2 c/units, 1 in the cellar and 1 on the 2nd floor. I have run a cable from the henley box up to the 2nd c/unit on the 2nd floor and I'm wondering if I need to provide test results for this cable on the schedule? Also the...

    Consumer unit under a sink..

Difficult for an improvement..the meter is under the sink also, think some alterations must have been done over the years and they've built the kitchen around it.

    Consumer unit under a sink..

Been to a job today to do a periodic and the consumer unit was directly under the kitchen sink. I can't find anything in the regs that says this can't be done but it doesn't seem right...can anyone put my mind at rest??

Hi I have just been asked to a job where the customers are moving house and the survey has picked up that they have had a board change. They are now being asked for the EIC from the solicitors, they have also told me that they had some extra lights put in, when they asked for the cert off the...

    Main bonding of plastic/copper services

Morning all... I am working on a property which has just had a lead water mains replaced with plastic. This comes from the main stop tap outside, then passes through the cellar for 8 meters, this then converts into copper which feeds the house. I am unsure as to whether this needs main...

    Downlights in plaster and lats

Hi all.. I've got to install some downlights in a plaster board ceiling which has been fixed to a ceiling of the old style plaster with wooden lats, does anyone know if the downlights have to be fire rated?? Also what are the instances where you would use mains rated downlights as opposed to...

    wiring through joists.

I'm not disputing any of this..I know it is totally impractical to cut a notch to 50mm deep. I was just trying to point out a confusion on page 59..fig 7.1 clearly states that a notch is a route for a cable to pass through it..above fig 59 it states that any cable passing through a joist should...

    wiring through joists.

Thanx..If you take the osg literally it does state on page 59 (still on red..just ordered my green) 'a cable passing THROUGH a joist be at least 50mm from the top' then on same page 'figure 7.1 cables THROUGH joists' figure 7.1 illustrates a notch in a joist, which to me suggests that a cable...

    wiring through joists.

Morning All... Another quick question I'm sure one of you will have the answer to... I am going to be running cables under my floorboards but as the house is over 100 years old this has been done many times before. The joists have already been notched out but not to the latest depth as per...

No don't have a neutral, they are at the light fitting end. I was just concerned about having different circuits at same switch.

2 separate lighting circuits on the same switch..allowed???

2 separate lighting circuits on the same switch..allowed???

Following my last post I decided to keep all my outdoor lighting on thier own separate circuit, so my next problem is how to switch them. My initial idea was to have a 3 gang switch and use 2 of the ways for internal and 1 way for the security light, but I was thinking if someone isolates the...

    Outdoor security light

cheers...I have 3 security lights and 2 outdoor lights to fit, so think I am going to run them on thier own separate lighting circuit..good idea??

    Outdoor security light

Hi I'm just getting myself verified with Elecsa and I'm wiring my 1st job..Just come across a little sticking point!! Do I wire an outdoor security light off my lighting circuit or do I take it from a FCU spurred off the power circuit? The only reason I ask is that I always see security...
