    PV Panel - Output Deterioration

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would have an issue with 8 year old panels being reinstalled when they have a 25 year performance warranty and will probably be at around 95% of their initial rated output. Decent panels should be good for 40-50 years (albeit with reduced effiiciency, but...

    MC4 Connector/6mm Cable Query

the gland is designed to tighten to the cable and no further, as long as it's tight and the cable can't rotate in the gland then it's water tight.

    Tom Chamlet International Fraudster

one of my staff half fell for this. It asked for the email password to log in to the file attachment, which they luckily weren't daft enough to supply.

    Solar Warranty Claims

Samil bankrupted their UK subsidiary who the warranty was held with IIRC. Most of the others that are still in business seem to be honoring them so far.

End of FITs in April 2019, end of MCS?

I am currently attempting though to get the MCS scheme improved in various ways to make it so that it's something that actually has some level of value to installers beyond the reasons given above. It's slow work though.

End of FITs in April 2019, end of MCS?

MCS is a requirement in permitted development regulations, so non-mcs systems would technically require planning permission. You can't self certify the roof structure side of things just via the electrical registration with NIC. An MCS cert or something similar is usually required by EPC...

Moving Solar equipment - advice please

disconnect and move one cable at a time while the other cable is still isolated in the isolator, that way while the cable is live there's no possibility of you being electrocuted as the circuit can't be completed. The circuits are electrically separated from earth as long as the AC and DC...

    Plug in solar

if you know what you're doing then it's not dangerous, if you don't then it could be. It could result in a circuit being overloaded without tripping the MCB / Fuse that's supposed to protect the circuit if wired in the way they suggest.

Samil Warranty over 2 months wait for a replacement.

I was under the impression that the UK company had gone bust and it was the UK company that the warranty was held with - news to me that there is any chance of getting a replacement under warranty.

    Photovoltaic array test form F43

If there is no protective device then the answer is... n/a on commercial systems usually with 3 string combining or more then there would (should) be DC string fuses, but that doesn't apply to most systems.

    Cell damage

26V makes it look like the bypass diode has kicked in to take the affected cells out of production anyway, in which case the losses would only be those associated with 1/3 of 1 panel being removed from production. If the bypass diode hadn't functioned then yes this cell would drag the rest down.

4.57Kw PV with a 4Kw inverter. Inverter too small?

unfortunately you've been ripped off, there was never any chance of a 20% increase in generation unless your previous system was heavily shaded and using a poorly performing inverter in the first place. Please complain to trading standards about the company who mis-sold you that 'upgrade'.

Novotegra end clips - anyone got any spare kicking around?

yeah I'm wondering about just importing them from continental Baywa.re. If we're bringing panels in from Europe it shouldn't be impossible to buy some clips.

Novotegra end clips - anyone got any spare kicking around?

Hi all, we stocked up on Novotegra mounting kit when Baywa.re were closing down, but are now running much shorter on the end clips than anything else. Does anyone have spare novotegra 34-50mm end clips kicking around either black or silver? If so please let me know, we'd be happy to give them...

What can cause an invertor to trip the MCB?

I'm pretty sure that the databases used were simply built up by the previous cold calling companies who were selling solar who simply recorded every time the person answering the phone told them they weren't interested because they already had a solar system installed.

MCS steering group meeting on Fire issues at BRE Tue 12th Sept - installer input needed please

I've emailed to ask them to fast track the applications, pointing out that for the last 2 meetings the only MCS certified solar pv installers in attendance were Solar Century, and they basically sub contract any microgeneration / sub 50kWp solar PV installations. Referenced the regulatory...
