As you imply - it isn't in the OSG. This was an error on my part having been through it last night. I think it's in an appendix of the brown book - but as you say, it is just a reccomendation. I just try to make sure any work I do takes the 'reccomendations' into account. There was a small RFC...
Came into work today with a fairly urgent requirement to install an instant hot water handwash unit in a small commercial kitchenette/servery - circa 2.8kw. Of course, it's in a right difficult area.
As the handwash is over 2kW, I'd ideally like to follow OSG advice and give it it's own...
Aren't you technically taking two spurs from one point of the ring though?
IE you have ring in and out, plus the third to your spur - but then the socket its behind is also a spur - as the point of junction is now the wagos rather than the socket faceplate
Anyone else noticed what seems to be doorbell wire in the 2 gange encloolsure at the bottom? Band 1 & Band 2 conductors mixed.
Admittedley probably least of the issues but still.
I always wanted to meet Lucien. He won't know it but I had followed him on many many forums over the years and shared a few insightful chats with him over here. He was a true font of all knowledge electrical and our industry is truly worse off without him.
Im excited to see this. Ive followed your work from fairly early on on different platforms. Truly saddened to hear it may disbanding - ive enjoyed sending you the odd bit over the years; where i've already had a duplicate or simply not the space to store - but knew must be preserved. The museum...
With respect I think it's a bit excessive to start questioning and comparing job roles. Every company is different - massively so. And roles can even adapt and change. Case in point; I started in another role before becoming an Estate Manager with my employer. I undertake my role differently to...
Did two of these recently. Amazing they're all stamped with thag "game changing" UK CA mark. The ones I did were the best part of £300, had those stupid connectors, were designed as Class 2 (somehow) and obviously had no way of connecting 3 plate wiring or even anywhere to park the earth.
I go for the 13a plug with L-E linked out. I have another with L-N linked out (theyre lovely old bakelite items so they stand out and obviously labelled). I wrestled with finding an easier way to test - as some of our boards are busy to say the least.
Enquire with supplier as opposed to DNO. Just had Octopus Energy attend to fit 2 isolators at 2 different addresses at no cost. Same with Eon (albeit a few years ago)
Problem is there's hundreds of installations out there like this. It's clearly an inappropriate product for the environment. It shouldn't be this hard for me to prove it.
We also have a length of the stuff on a catenary feeding an isolator for a remote plant room. It's been up a year and the outer clear sheath has gone rock hard and yellow.
This stuffs just a pain in the backside and so much more effort than just doing the job appropriately
Could really do...
I can see this just going down the route of me jusy saying "it's a bit rough and wasn't worth the £2k that was paid for 2 new circuits and some modifications"
Thanks all. As @Vortigern says - if id been asked to do it id have been running a standard cable across.
i think ill code as I see fit and do some further study. I'm keen to cross reference it with a reg because I just know when my EICR goes to the company I'll get some comeback from their...
There is lots of guidance - and a fairly intensive training course to become qualified to do Eicrs, which does result in some consistency - but yes there is a degree of individual interpretation.
You can choose to employ an electrician or dedicated testing firm to undertake the test and then...
