Need help/advice, insure of what the problem is and think I’m being ripped off

It could be something very simple, like a chafed wire as it enters one of the sockets back boxes and when he disturbed the cables, it made the fault worse, or it could be a fault in a cable under the floor boards, as has been said previously, a good sparky worth his salts will trace the fault in...

Wire in the in-built wardrobe's wall vs regulation

Yes, usually. Everyone I know who’ve moved in to a brand new home, haven’t been able to decorate for at least 12 months and not been allowed to hang anything on the walls with nails etc for the first 3-6 months. So I guess knocking down a built in cupboard might fall under those terms as well.

Wire in the in-built wardrobe's wall vs regulation

They probably wasn’t expecting the home owner to come along and demolish that storage cupboard. In most new builds you can’t decorate or make alterations within the first 12 months or so.

Live wire taped off in the loft.

You could try by turning every mcb off, then turn them on one by one while checking the cable until it becomes live again, then you’ll know which mcb it’s connected to.

    Old copies of BS7671?...

Since I qualified last March, I’ve also been looking for old copies of the regs. Ironically though, before I qualified or even thought about becoming an electrician I was at an indoor boot sale in January 2018 and there was a guy there selling old copies of the regs going back to the 40’s &...

As Telectrix has said, the electrical side of things should be included with your building control application for the overall build of your house. You just need to prove to them you’re competent. Speakyo your local building control when they reopen this week.

Do you have a standard switch to wire up, just to see if the light works?

    Good electricians hand book?

You don’t need to worry about socket/switch heights etc, as that only applies to “new builds” and not applicable to a rewire of an existing property. Just use your common sense when it comes to where to position sockets/switches.

Ah, the good old Wheeled Escape Ladder, London Fire Brigade phased this type of ladder out in the early/mid 1980’s for the 9 meter aluminium extension ladder. My brother was the last training class to be trained on them at Southwark, they were the best, most sturdiest ladder ever, but very...

    Mcb trips but tests clear

Can you split the rfc in to 2 radials, then connect each radial to an mcb to see which leg trips the mcb? This will at least give you a rough idea of which leg of the rfc to inspect further.
