    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Think what I'll do is take the drawings into the council offices and ask them what they will require, that way they can let us know what is the minimum required, this way if they say each room then he'll listen them, if it was up to me I'd cover myself and put it in each room but the guy won't...

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Your input is appreciated, doesn't mean I can't give my opinion though. A fire panel etc just ain't going to happen, it was hard enough convincing him to put a detector in!! I've attached a quick plan overview, out of curiosity where would you say I need detectors?

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Mmm, can see where you're coming from kind of but to me it just seems like it's something that isn't needed. Out of curiosity what would you class the building as? It's basically a little garage with 3 cupboards.......

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Agreed, was just using council as an example as if anyone should be going by the book it's them...or maybe not. lol.

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

If that's the case there's literally thousand and thousands of council properties without this. I've never been in a council house, or any property for that matter that has detectors in the attic.

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Why? It's basically an attic so there shouldn't be any need? Also, I don't know if this makes a difference but this isn't commercial, it's just for the homeowners dogs.

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Change of plans I've now been told. There will be ceilings going on the joists now! I'll only need to fit a smoke detector in the workshop/storage area now I'd imagine.

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Thanks for replies. Basically it's a rectangular shaped building, half of it is to be used to store tools and an old tractor, the other half is split into 3 kennels for the owners dogs. It has a pitched roof. Inside there are no plasterboard ceilings, it's opened up as he is storing wood etc on...

    Outbuilding Smoke detector required?

Do you have to fit a smoke detector in outbuildings? It's a new build, about 20metres from the house and is half kennels half storage area? Someone told me there's no need but I wasn't sure if that was correct

    Insulation Reesistance results.

I tested both with and without the accessories on. I know it's ok by the book but it's the first time I've come across this with new cable. Pub sounds good! I only done it without the accessories on to try & rule out the lower reading being on the run from the consumer unit, this way with...

    Insulation Reesistance results.

I installed a new ring for a utility room today, I tested the two legs before anything was connected and everything was all clear. Then once I connected all the fittings but never hitched anything in at the CU side my results seemed to change. Live-Neutral was fine >299 mega ohms, but Live-Earth...

Thanks for the replies chaps. Completely forgot about this thread! lol.

    Carbon Monoxide detector question!

See if I'm on a gas or oil boiler job I always check to see if they have a Carbon Monoxide detector & if they don't I suggest they either get one I will install or they get one that plugs into the mains. Anyway, who's responsibility is it to make sure there is one, if anybodys? Is it the...

    Lighting fault!

I really ain't sure what size they are, I'll ask the guy who supplied them. Not sure if they get hot to be honest. He's only had the lights on once to check this cured the problem, he's not completely finished yet. I think he was possibly goin' to heatshrink the ends than go into the live &...

    Lighting fault!

Leads? You mean the two bits twisted together that ain't connected in L & N? I would just stick them in a connector.

    Lighting fault!

Sorry I completely forgot to give an update on this. After talking it over with a fellow sparkie he agreed & said a "snubber" would cure the problem. He gave my mate two resistors twisted together as shown in picture below, said to put one end in with live & one with neutral as suggested here &...

    Garage RCD question.

Right here's the info...there's a small 2-way consumer unit in a external garage. Just a 40A main switch with two MCB's one for lights & one for sockets. Was adding lights & sockets today & the guy I work with said that as we were adding to the circuits we'd have to replace the main switch with...

    PAT kit

I've also got one of these for sale. Been used three times tops, general scratches on it from lying in the van but nothing major. Any offers? I'd be looking for a lot more than £100 though! :D

Could this lead to future problem?

Thanks guys, I wasn't so sure. I'll maybe mark down on the test certificate the supply has been installed by someone else just in case. I can only go by what he's saying that it's in ducting, he did show me the spare ducting he had left so pretty sure he has. If only he'd consulted me before...
